Zune installation experience18 Nov 2006 12:56 GMT46
Okay, so the URL might give away how fluidly the zune install experience
was, but here you go:

Note some of the cringeworthy wording on some of the user dialogs, such

Monitor resolution and working environments18 Nov 2006 09:39 GMT12
I have been trying to find any documented studies into monitor
resolutions and the suitability of the various resolutions for various
types of work. E.g. is 1024x768 enough for light office work, Word and
emails. Is 1024x768 definitely not good enough for spreadsheet work,
Aperture Guides17 Nov 2006 23:28 GMT3
Are there any good (online or offline) guides to using Aperture - 1.5
of course.
I would prefer to go or a good hardcopy book but most seem to cover 1.1
only at this stage. Any recommendations? I have the Apple manual but
ffmpegx What am I doing wrongly?17 Nov 2006 23:20 GMT15
I've converted my eyetv file to mpeg4, dropped it ont to ffmpegx
(summary)in order to convert to dvd. The source  sees it as
'unrecognised', but it does appear to be encoding. Is that as it should
be?
URL auto-completion in Safari17 Nov 2006 23:08 GMT2
Is there any way to turn it off?
I might type "groups.google.co.uk" (to give an example) into the
URL box; before I can press Enter, Safari has inserted the URL
of the last usenet post I accessed the previous day. I'd rather
MacBook Benchmarks17 Nov 2006 19:12 GMT-
Interesting benchmarks comparing my old G4 Mac Mini with the new
revision of the MacBook.
The upgraded 100 Gb 7200 rpm drive in the Mini is run through the ATA
bus and the standard 120 Gb 5400 rpm drive in the MacBook is run through
clips from DVD17 Nov 2006 17:37 GMT6
I am trying to extract a single clip for my Moving Image class to
analyse. I can import the clip in to both iMovie and Final Cut from a
vob file but there is no audio in either. I thought the sound was down
on my speakers and I nearly blew myself in the back of the room  when an

Bundled Quicken 200617 Nov 2006 15:54 GMT1
Maybe I'm just being dim and can't find it but it looks like the latest
system software that comes with the revised MacBook has lost the Quicken
2006 installer.
It was certainly there on the discs I got with my original MacBook and
Talking of odd documents...17 Nov 2006 15:14 GMT5
The index page of my website has thoroughly broken. There's a bit of
PHP in it for my local server status at the bottom, but for some
inexplicable reason, the page stops loading part of the way through
(consistently). It originally broke a few lines further down the page,
NeoOffice page numbering17 Nov 2006 14:56 GMT3
I'm using NeoOffice 2 Beta 3, and while I appreciate the 'beta' in the
title, there are a couple of problems (tables, mostly) but one think I
would like to do is to offset the page numbering by 654, in order to
'recreate' a journal article for inclusion as an appendix in an essay ...
League table generator software ?17 Nov 2006 13:00 GMT3
Does anyone know of any software for OSX that will compile a league

System font is all crappy17 Nov 2006 12:25 GMT2
Just bought a new iMac. The font used to display things like the list
view looks corrupted - rather like dodgy dot-matrix font. I tried
setting up a new user account and it worked fine. So then I deleted the
offending account and re-created it (and copied the Library across) and
