What does bootpd do?03 Oct 2006 20:22 GMT4
I'm using Little Snitch[1].  It's been asking me if it's okay to let
bootdp access various local IP addresses (various UDP connections).
What is this process, and what should I permit it to do?
(and if anyone would like to give me a quick run-down on this UDP lark,
PDF Merge03 Oct 2006 20:21 GMT3
I had call to try and use Woody's PDF merge the other day - it did not
seem to work. I cannot remember the last time I used it so I do not
know if it is a Tiger or Intel problem.
I have found "Combine PDFs" (snazzy name!)

After my previous posting re the burnt smell off the iMac I followed the

use my 1Gb RAM and the old hard drive in the iMac - can anyone point me to
a website where it's explained how to do this - ideally ...

I have a d-link 614+ router at home (2.4 ghz, 802.11b, up to 22 Mbps,
64/128/256 bit WEP encryption) which I use for my wireless network. Can

video chat - skype beta 203 Oct 2006 16:06 GMT1
Having temporarily given up on iChat for AV between myself and a mate,
we had a go with the beta of Skype 2.0 for OS X last night.  worked
like a charm (with a few bugs such as selecting "preferences" turns off
the video camera for some reason) though NAT routers, and presumably
ipod with bad sectors?03 Oct 2006 15:34 GMT10
my 3G 20GB ipod's acting weird since i formatted it as HFS on a mac -
was originally FAT32 from a PC.  now, it hangs copying songs over - and
I suspect bad sectors.  other than doing a disk utility secure erase to
(hopefully) mark bad sectors as unusable, has anyone had any ...

The audio input patch in Quartz Composer has just stopped working. It
used to work, but now it doesn't.
Audio Hijack, Garageband and System Preferences all recognise my
microphone input. The audio input patch is set to use built-in audio and
Will Toast 5 run on a MacBook Pro.03 Oct 2006 11:55 GMT7
About 4 or 5 years ago I purchased a copy of Toast 5 to run on my
