New iMac flakiness - shoulder to cry on needed05 Oct 2006 08:04 GMT4
My brand new 24" iMac has started being flaky in its connection to the
internet, telling me that it couldn't find any trusted networks, or
that the attempt to connect to my router had failed. I have a wireless
Speedtouch router upstairs. Tonight it seemed that the router itself
>OT Owls04 Oct 2006 23:46 GMT12
Today, while cycling, I saw a Little Owl sitting on a road sign, then on
the way back  a Barn owl flew/glided across my path, close enough to
touch... lovely creatures

Zune vs iPod04 Oct 2006 23:37 GMT15
Apparently His Steveness once said something along the lines of "the
trouble with Bill Gates is that he has no style". Well, I've always
thought the same could be said of Microsoft. And if I needed any
further evidence of how Microsoft just don't get good design, the Zune
Wow, ADSL Max is getting there!04 Oct 2006 20:43 GMT9
I'm just watching MenuMeters reading a *steady* 800KB/s.
I think they've finally fixed the issues with ADSL at 8Meg.

Netgear DG834G and Bonjour04 Oct 2006 20:43 GMT12
Approaching this from a different tack, does anyone have this router
working successfully with Bonjour / Rendezvous?

AN: Oscilloscope, Generator for Mac OS-X04 Oct 2006 20:01 GMT-
The Open Instrumentation Project (OIP) has been formed to support
open-source software and low cost hardware for electronic
instrumentation.
Currently available instruments include an oscilloscope, waveform
Now I see the point of Aperture.04 Oct 2006 19:24 GMT17
OK, I'm not a Gavin chaps, I've done my fair share of illegal serial
numbers, but not any more, all my current software is legit - just in
case.
However, I've had to purloin a copy just to see if it'll work on my Mac.
Graphic tablets ..04 Oct 2006 19:06 GMT27
So, thinking ahead re the Mini and the PC of getting a graphics tablet
for the graphicy daughter.
Knowing many Mac users are 'Artists' (in one form or another <g>) you
might be able to give me some practical feedback on said?

FileVault04 Oct 2006 17:35 GMT8
I've been tinkering with a 600 G3 iMac (10.3.9) that has FileVault
turned on.
Am I right in thinking that FV is generally a bad thing? The iMac seems
a bit sluggish/hesitant.
iTunes radio - repeated rebuffering04 Oct 2006 17:22 GMT9
I listen a great deal to radio streams with iTunes, well, I used to
anyway.
For some time now the streaming quality has been rather poor:  after
only a few seconds it stalls and says it's rebuffering. After a little
Anyone else use Vuescan? Is there a day when it -isn't- updated?04 Oct 2006 15:50 GMT5
I use Versiontracker Pro to keep up with things, and am constantly
amazed at the speed updates come out for Vuescan. Seems to be damned
near every day - certainly if a week goes by without an update I get
suspicious...
iMac to VGA04 Oct 2006 15:23 GMT4
What widget do I need to connect an external VGA (not DVI) monitor to my
iMac G5 17" 2.0 (rev B, not the iSight one)?
Can I get this from Apple or is this a job for fleabay?
Thanks!
iTunes radio rebuffering - solved!04 Oct 2006 14:00 GMT-
I came across this tip on the Apple boards - it fixed the problem for me
instantly. The trick seems to trick QT into thinking your connection is
a lot slower than in reality.
> 1. Go to system preferences, and Quicktime then click on 'Streaming'.
osx 10.4.8 on G3 B&W04 Oct 2006 13:45 GMT2
Just put 10.4.8 on a G3 450 BW with 512 MB of ram. It seems to be much
faster than when 10.2 was on it. I know its purely subjective. but has
anyone else seen a similar effect.
