Using the Finder it used to be possible to move items from one directory to another by dragging, or if the Finder wanted to copy (eg. because it was a different disc) then you could force a move by holding down the command key while dragging. If this involved moving stuff to a ...

| Network shares - mounting etc | 05 Oct 2006 22:06 GMT | 4 |
I've a NAS box at home that'll work via FTP or SMB on my network. In finder, I can connect fine to it using Go...Connect to Server and it mounts OK. What I'm trying to get my head around is how this mounting works.

| Soup Problems | 05 Oct 2006 17:53 GMT | 5 |
I'd noticed a major slowdown of my G4 iBook's performance this evening, so I did something *really* stupid and did a forced reboot, rather than using the correct restart procedure. Since then I've been unable to use MacSoup at all. Every time I tried to

| Acquisition and network transfer rates | 05 Oct 2006 13:36 GMT | 12 |
I'm running Acquisition to download a fairly large BitTorrent file. Acquisition is set to use no more than 20KB/s. Its transfer rates seem to range between 6 and 15KB/s. However, Activity Monitor shows that something is hammering the network, hovering around 10 times those

| Kill file advice needed | 05 Oct 2006 11:18 GMT | 56 |
I see that pain in the **** Chris Holland is now faking "Daniel Procida"'s From: address. He may be faking others, for all I know. I am using MacSoup, which offers reasonably extensive kill-file options, but I don't know which to use to get rid of this irritating person,

| iPod Shuffle and USB1 | 05 Oct 2006 10:42 GMT | 1 |
The specifications for the new iPod Shuffle on Apple's web-site says that it requires USB2. Is this absolutely true? I seem to remember that the old Shuffle would work with USB1, or perhaps I'm imagining it. If it's USB2-only then it looks like I'll have to buy a new Mac before I
