Retrospect Backup Question06 Oct 2006 20:19 GMT10
Every ten or so DVD's I burn in a backup set to turns up a ³This disc is
write protected² error, even though it isn't.
Anyone know to overcome this other than just write to a new disc. I've
checked the info panel through finder and this seems to not offer help.

It's here........06 Oct 2006 19:26 GMT8
My copy of Aperture 1.5 arrived today. Nice pack, and a good printed
manual too. Very nice organisational features, although it does all seem
very daunting at first. It's certainly not the nice cosy app that iPhoto
is. However, the flexibity and control you have is amazing.
Could anyone shed any light on a mysterious 'dong' (or it'll have to be returned to Apple for refund :o*()?06 Oct 2006 19:05 GMT28
Right. New (refurb) 17" MBP. It's begun making a very soft 'bonking' sound
(any sexual references will be treated with the contempt they deserve -
Sarah's not got much of a sense of humour at the moment.) from the area
around the middle of the side of the left speaker nearest the ...

I need to add wireless access to an exisiting router - do we have a preferred

NTP problem - gaining time06 Oct 2006 11:06 GMT2
My G4 PowerMac (10.3.7) is gaining time. It's configured to use NTP via
time.euro.apple.com, and the syslogs report that ntpd starts with no errors.
ps reports ntpd running as expected, yet it still gains time.
Stoping and restarting ntpd by unchecking and checking the box in system
Keyboard volume control tweak06 Oct 2006 10:49 GMT5
Anyone know if it is possible to tweak the keyboard volume control so that it
is more sensitive? I would like it to control volume in the range 0-10%
rather than 0-100%.

Jagwire: default Finder window size?06 Oct 2006 10:02 GMT4
Having just introduced my girlfriend to the concept of the Finder (yep,
that's a couple of years using a Mac and she's never moved or copied
files by herself) I've discovered that the default size for Finder
windows is too large for an 800x600 screen.
Speech06 Oct 2006 09:55 GMT2
Jut been sent a long email, and I decided to give the speech a try and
have it read out to me. I barely touch speech on computers - any
computers, not just Macs - so it's come as a pleasant surprise to find
out it's really rather good. Only thing I'd like is the ability to
