It is supposed to cure some of the cases of sudden shutdown (attention,
Jon B?). Well, it says here:

Need help with network routing30 Oct 2006 13:00 GMT1
I know it's a low-level-unix-type-networky question, but I'm trying to
configure some static routing in OS X 10.4.8, so I reckon it's on-topic! :-)
OK, my set up is a VPN host-to-LAN connection to the office.
There is a gateway router in the office that connects directly via a ...
What's up ?30 Oct 2006 12:27 GMT20
Just got back from a week of internet-less vacation. Can't be bothered
to read 810 new messages. Has anything much happened this past week
(apart from the MBP beign upgraded to run 37% hotter, which I already
knew about) ? Was there anything other than iPod accessories at the ...

thanks to rogue amoeba30 Oct 2006 07:57 GMT1
thanks to rogue amoeba software for making airfoil available for windows, so
that I can use it to listen to radio programmes in my kitchen using my pc
laptop, rather than rushing upstairs to get things going on my mac. Now
cooking dinner can be enhanced by both music via itunes ...
Amazon.co.uk - extreme P&P30 Oct 2006 01:40 GMT16
I've just been ordering the Canon iP5200 from Amazon.co.uk, chucked in a
set of spare printer cartridges, some photo paper and a 3 metre USB
cable. The USB cable is listed for the surprisingly cheap £0.01
The printer comes from Amazon, some of the other bits from various
MAC spoofing30 Oct 2006 00:00 GMT5
My router manual has become my bedtime reading. Heavy going.
It says "it is advisable to clone the MAC address from a computer on your LAN
even if your ISP does not presently require MAC address authentication." I
don't get this. Why is it 'advisable'?
Refurb Store - meaning of acronyms29 Oct 2006 21:08 GMT6
I'm looking at the refurb store - and am confused by a couple of
acronyms.
AE - I expect this stands for Airport Express
AP - not sure what this is - but it never appears when AE is present.
What is using the disk?29 Oct 2006 20:59 GMT20
I'm trying to archive all my old Zip disks by burning the whole lot onto
DVD.
I insert the Zip, copy it onto my hard drive, then try to eject it, but
all I get is that "The disk Zip029 is in use and could not be ejected.
Mac-Windows Powerpoint29 Oct 2006 19:49 GMT2
I recently posted that I'd had problems using Mac-produced Powerpoint
presentations on a Windows network - graphics wouldn't display, saying
Quicktime and a Targz (or something) decompressor required. The graphics
were originally generated using Grab. The NG consensus appeared to ...
MacSoup and time29 Oct 2006 19:34 GMT2
Looked on usenet today and there were lots of question marks for the age
column.
I forgot that if you don't quit macsoup (ever), it doesn't cope with the
time change very well, even though the mac copes ok.
