Speaker recommendation please10 Oct 2006 17:07 GMT98
I'd like to run some speakers off my mini. But I also want to be able to
switch to and from my headphones, without faffing around the back
unplugging things. So presumably I need either speakers with a headphone
jack, or USB speakers which leave the mini's audio output free for
GLTerminal - even geekier than Terminal!10 Oct 2006 16:59 GMT15
For those of you who like your Terminal truly old skool, I found a link
to this on boingboing.net...

GLTerminal re-creates the curve, flicker and colour of your old

Complete with preview thumbnails?
iPhoto & iTunes may be great for photos and music, but what about
movies littered across my entire hard drive.

Can't access secure Web pages10 Oct 2006 16:51 GMT80
This is an odd one.
I've got a MacOS X 10.3.9 1.25GHz 2G4 (2003 MDD).  It connects to the
'net using ISDN.  It's connected to `everything else in the house' via
Ethernet.
Apples aren't green10 Oct 2006 16:51 GMT22

Greenpeace say Apple's laptops are some of the worst in terms of their
toxic compound content.
To me it feels like two of my best friends have had a falling out -
Macbook random shutdown (RSD)10 Oct 2006 16:51 GMT23
I bought a Macbook in mid-May which, aside from the AC whistle and the
fixed-by-Photo-booth CPU noise was fault-free until the hard drive died
about a month ago. I took it to the Apple store on Regent Street who
replaced the disc (though it took them over a fornight to do so). Since
BBC 'opens' dialogue' with Microsoft.10 Oct 2006 16:51 GMT98
Excuse my cynicism, but I rather doubt they'll be rushing to provide
this on Macs or Linux boxes.

G4 Powerbook: Kernel Panic when plugging in power adaptor10 Oct 2006 16:42 GMT4
Sorry for the query post. I have a 1Ghz G4 Powerbook running 10.4.7 A
week or so ago I was watching a DVD when everything locked and I got a
kernel panic display. Wondering if my machine had overheated I turned
everything off and left it for an hour or so before re-booting.
iPod random play - how random is it really?10 Oct 2006 14:17 GMT32
Just came across this nice article:
"Oh no, not Steely Dan again!"

Am I pleased with my iPod's random play?
VNCing from work, part II.10 Oct 2006 12:56 GMT23
I'm trying to VNC from my work Windows box onto my home Mac over SSH.
I can SSH there using PuTTY, and I believe (but I could be wrong) that I
have forwarded port 5901 through the SSH tunnel (using the options in
PuTTY).
Booting from RAID10 Oct 2006 12:17 GMT7
With a RAID array of (say) 4 HDDs, does the computer see just one
drive?  And if so, can it boot from it/them?

ISO: OSX utility to convert Nokia .amr files to something usable10 Oct 2006 11:55 GMT2
I guess the title says it all really... I recorded a load of voice notes on
my Nokia 6230 this week only to find that they're stored in a (presumably)
proprietary .amr format.
Can anyone recommend a reliable utility to convert these ,amr files to AIFF,
Stong objections to the iTunes SHOP10 Oct 2006 11:46 GMT-
iTunes is a great piece of software, but I do fear that Apple is just
setting up a giant shop.
Sure, they are competetive at the moment, but one day they may well
have a giant monoply
Very basic HTML question10 Oct 2006 11:34 GMT43
I want to stick a single file (dmg) on my homepage. My homepage can't be
accessed if it doesn't have an index. Is there a quick and dirty way of
generating an index?
