no real news just a snort at rather odd logic, guess it's just PR though
you'd of thought that for a reasurch company that is gartner they would

If someone has access to a Windows PC at work and can use GoogleTalk,

Worthe getting new Stuffit ??19 Oct 2006 09:05 GMT10
I got an ad in my mailbox for a new version of Stuffit. The only thing
I use Sfor right now is for unstuffing some applications that are
delivered that way, and for which the free version seems to be fine.
The only reason I can see for buying a new version is for the aesthetic

Desktop picture changing - what am I missing?19 Oct 2006 06:58 GMT7
Ok, I've set my desktop picture to change every minute from a folder
full of holiday snaps.
Sometimes it does an instant change, sometimes it fades. What governs
the transition?
slow down slideshow screensaver?19 Oct 2006 06:41 GMT4
After various attempts at changing my screen background picture
(including the nifty "Desktopia"), I discovered a small applescript that
quietly turns a screensaver (which I chose to be Slideshow) into the
background picture.
Nice shiny external hard drive19 Oct 2006 01:22 GMT83
I just took ownership of a 500 GB external hard disk - a LaCie model.
Very impressed and not a bad price - £115 plus VAT (I paid about the
same a year or so ago for a 120GB drive). Nice styling - a sort of
gunmetal case, nicely compact, stackable. I bought it from Misco, here:
Adding sound to a QuickTime movie19 Oct 2006 00:23 GMT14
I have a perfectly serviceable little QuickTime movie, at 1.42 minutes
long (some animation produced using a DV camera and iStopMotion)
I want to add some sound to it, so I get it into iMovie.
Whichever way I epxort it, I can't have it at the same nice sharp

On a roll here - 2 posts :-)
I've got an Intel iMac, 1GB RAM. After a hefty session (Word, Entourage,
Powerpoint, Firefox, Thunderbird, Excel, Preview), opening hundreds of

Software serial numbers...18 Oct 2006 22:01 GMT11
Does anyone know of a way that I can log all of the serial numbers of
the applications currently installed on my machines?
I have used Belarc Advisor for the Windows PC's but I need to do the
same for all my Apple machines.

Dead Intel iMac...18 Oct 2006 21:14 GMT8
My shiny Intel iMac has died after less than a month.  Not just the
display, everything.  Replaced the fuse.  Nothing.
The support site has an article about resetting the SMC if your Intel
iMac won't start up, but starts off by saying "from the Apple menu,
