| Daft question about ssh | 21 Oct 2006 22:21 GMT | 10 |
I'm using 10.4.8 and trying to ssh to a remote server. How do I get the built in ssh function to use a # in the username, rather than a @? Thanks Kev

| iPod Shuffle incompatible with MacBook | 21 Oct 2006 20:25 GMT | - |
Well perhaps not really - I am disappointed to find that with the Shuffle plugged in I cannot use the other USB sockey, whereas on the iBook a Shuffle and an Apple USB lead fitted perfectly side by side. kt.

| It's alive! | 21 Oct 2006 19:58 GMT | 22 |
It being broadband on Dad's eMac (OS 9.2)! So, Mum phones me at 08:15 to tell me the BT Home Hub had arrived (what's the rush, they haven't had BB for 70+ years) but the letter said it would be enabled between 13 and 18:00.

| Thanks! | 21 Oct 2006 18:39 GMT | 6 |
In the post today I received an ADB/S-Video cable, and a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements, from PeterD and Steve Hodgson. Two problems now solved, and all I did was mention each in a paragraph on Usenet. Anybody who thinks this group has outlived its worthwhile life, or that

| Searching the iTunes store | 21 Oct 2006 16:41 GMT | 1 |
Is there a convenient way to search the iTunes store for only just one kind of material? For example, if I'm looking for "Islam" in podcasts, and then search again for "Muslim", I must once again narrow down the search to podcasts

| Mini freezing when you access the security preference pane | 21 Oct 2006 15:49 GMT | 2 |

I need to download a huge file from the apple dev site and it looks like my cable providers transparent proxies, that are upstream, can't handle the file size. I had another proxy, not on the NTL network, that I used in the past

| Weird noises from G5 | 21 Oct 2006 11:53 GMT | 5 |
I'm now my own man (by which I mean I've set up my own consultancy). One of the big differences is that my home office is *much* quieter, which means I can hear things I never did before. Like the weird noises my G5 Powermac is making.

| OTish: Google search for ".Mac"? | 21 Oct 2006 11:43 GMT | 16 |
Quick thing - how do I get Google to recognise that when I type .Mac, I really -mean- .Mac and not just the word Mac? Cheers, Ian

| Backing up Entire System | 20 Oct 2006 22:41 GMT | 6 |
Hi group, I may need to take my Macbook in to get its backlight fixed. What's the best way to backup my system so that I can wipe it before I hand it over? Just like you, I wouldn't want them to see all the pirate software I have!

| More free Expo tickets... | 20 Oct 2006 21:31 GMT | 8 |
If you haven't got your Expo tickets yet (Kyle...) then according to the Apple news RSS if you enter the discount code "AP6" on the <http://www.mac-expo.co.uk/> site you should get a free ticket. It has just worked here for me so I should have a spare ticket for an
