Countdown screensaver?28 Sep 2006 18:06 GMT18
Anyone know of a screensaver that will count down the days, hours and
minutes to a specified date/time?
I know that there are widgets that do this, but I'd prefer a
screensaver.
...and it's gone again28 Sep 2006 16:41 GMT40
My 'resurrected' disk lasted less than two days then.
This time I'm trying to start up in verbose mode. It gets as far as
reporting IOBlueToothPCIController, then dies.
I get the following message:
Unix setuid permissions problem28 Sep 2006 13:47 GMT4
I have a very useful little utility called fseventer which builds a
graphical tree on the fly showing which files are being accessed at any
given time. It's a lot easier to interpret than the output from lsof,
that's for sure. See:
Network printing over Airport Express?28 Sep 2006 13:01 GMT9
It doesn't appear to be possible but someone will have a workaround I'm
sure. I want to print from my iBook connected wirelessly to Airport
Express. which is fed from a Netgear router to which is connected my
LaserWriter, myiMac, my MacMini and a PS photocopier. I want to print ...
Sharing an internet connection - solved28 Sep 2006 12:36 GMT4
I asked here about getting my new G5 (10.4.7) to share my old G4's
(10.3.9)  Webshuttle connection to the internet, with the two Macs
connected via Ethernet.
Well, I've got it sorted out.   I spent a long time trying to figure it
Pages and printing28 Sep 2006 12:17 GMT3
Does the latest version of Pages still make a document think it has
unsaved changes if you print it? Any idea why Pages 1 (iWork 05) does
this?

bluetooth caller ID?28 Sep 2006 10:38 GMT3
Getting to grips with OS X now, and can even burn DVDs now I've got
some Verbatim media (yay).  However, what I'd like and believe I should
be able to do is to get caller ID appearing on screen when someone
rings my bluetooth phone.  I've paired with the phone, but nothing
Ethernet config for 'net access query28 Sep 2006 08:33 GMT34
I've heard that this is possible:
Two Macs, ethernetted together can share a single internet connection;
that is, I've heard that I can dial up (ISDN) using one Mac, and then
get through to the 'net from another Mac connected to it via Ethernet,
Margolotta's Wit and Wisdom28 Sep 2006 08:30 GMT3
She may not be welcome here, but Apple's leading disciple is still polluting
the net on 24hoursupport.helpdesk.
Could you chain her up or something?

macosforge.com down28 Sep 2006 08:21 GMT2
As per the title, seems to have been down for a while. Is there any way
to get hold of the DarwinPorts installer? Google suggests a few
locations, but I'm uncertain as to which are official and which aren't.
I'm aiming to put subversion and apache2 on the machine, but this time
Logic Express 7.2.328 Sep 2006 08:00 GMT-
...and presumably Logic itself as well. Says that it's now been
optimised for increased performance on quads, be they Mac Pros or G5.
I wonder how they've done that then? I'd have thought the way to do
that would be to increase the threading within the app, but that
JavaHelp on the Mac28 Sep 2006 06:48 GMT28
Quick question. I am working on JavaHelp files for a client and I have
been looking for a Mac client. I am trying to install JHelpBuilder and
it is choking on the location of the JDK. I am using what I thought to
be the right setting (/Library/Java/Home)  but it doesn't accept it ...
Explain this miracle...28 Sep 2006 06:46 GMT44
I was helping a friend who wanted to digitise his collection of ancient
vinyl using his old iMac.  We got his turntable connected up to his
iMac, and recorded an album using Audacity.  Did a bit of noise
reduction and edited the recording into ten separate tracks, saving
