I'm trying to find a good newsreader for the Mac. I've tried MacSOUP
(didn't get on with it at all) and Unison (what I'm using now, seems
good but not many options for formatting and I'm not sure yet that it
isn't converting all my posts to HTML and condemning me to hell).
Copy DVD to iPod?05 Sep 2006 19:35 GMT14
This is probably the dumbest questioned posted here but.....I bought a Video
iPod naively believing that I could transfer videos to my iPod.
I have tried and failed to do this.  When I insert a DVD into my disc drive
it does not appear in iTunes (like an audio CD does).  I can "see" ...
Of Intel, CCC & USB05 Sep 2006 19:17 GMT2
Just playing around today setting up my new clones for the Intel
machines and just confirming and following up on a few things.
a) Despite the defaults being an Apple Partition Map for PPC HDs, and
GUID for the Intel machines, the Intel machines WILL still boot from a
Why do Apple use UPS for parcels?05 Sep 2006 18:59 GMT6
I've recently applied for a replacement MacBook Pro battery, as mine
was one of the batch that was likely to expand with use.
They've shipped it via UPS, and attempted to deliver it to my home
address, when I'm at work instead.
The sweat and humiliation of the poor built your iPod part 205 Sep 2006 18:52 GMT59

So, Apple's own investigation and their own admissions reveal that their
Chinese iPod contractors indulge in some rather unsavoury employment
practices.
Apple pays Creative to shut up: $100 million05 Sep 2006 18:50 GMT5
<http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/5280394.stm>
I presume that's basically what this amounts to. It's not nearly as much
as they'd have paid if Creative had won their case (I guess, knowing
bugger-all about this kind of thing) but it's still a large chunk of a
Question on video output on macbook core duo05 Sep 2006 18:28 GMT10
Hi can anyone confirm if the 2ghz core duo macbook will output the
display resolution at 1920X1200 for a 24" wide screen monitor, via the
DVI output or is it fixed at the the normal resolution of the screen?
Macbook Pro hibernation05 Sep 2006 17:46 GMT49
Someone asked a while back about changing batteries on a MacBook Pro in
sleep mode and whether it hibernated and preserved the sleep state when
you removed the battery without having the power cord plugged in.
The answer is that it does. When you power it on with the changed
Active Corners Inactive05 Sep 2006 17:46 GMT2
Today my active corners stopped working for no apparent reason. They've
been set as they are without a hitch for nearly three years.
I've obviously checked under System Prefs > Expose, but all the
settings are as they were.
System transfer to Intel05 Sep 2006 14:26 GMT6
Using the firewire method I've just finished transferring all my Mac
Mini content - programs, data, settings, -- the entire HDD content - to
my new Intel Core-duo Mini - it took about an hour.
All software, so far, seems to work just fine.  If there are any
How do I take apart PowerBook G4 Screen?05 Sep 2006 14:24 GMT15
I have here in front of me a PowerBook G4 in pieces.
I have got as far as having the screen detached and sitting here
waiting on my anti-static bench.
The problem with the screen is a flickering backlight, which I suspect
Stickies05 Sep 2006 14:14 GMT25
If, in TextEdit or Mail for example, I highlight some text and go to
Services>Make New Sticky Note, shouldn't it make a new Sticky note? It
doesn't. Any ideas?
OSX 10.4.7
Ubuntu + XGL - eye opener05 Sep 2006 14:13 GMT17
OK, I like Ubuntu but chiefly use it at work from the command line,
with only fairly limited GUI usage.
So I was a bit surprised to see this:

Mac OSX seems to have 'gone negative'05 Sep 2006 14:02 GMT12
I don't know whether this is something my young son has done but I got
hom last night to find OSX (4.4.6) on a G4 behaving very oddly. The only
way I can put it is that it seems to have gone negative: the all whit
backgorunds have become black, the pale blue background has become ...
PRAM battery; mains off/on?05 Sep 2006 13:43 GMT8
Extract from a mac book, "It (refers to PRAM battery) keeps a small portion
of memory ... ticking over with the basics about your Mac's setup when
there's no power connection. If you leave your Mac unplugged for any length
of time this battery can be rundown" [I know about date ...
