Redirect tar to stout?09 Sep 2006 00:34 GMT9
I think I'm being a bit slow. I'm trying to get a backup system working
on a web site. The class I have used is apparently causing the server to
bog down, so I've gotta write it myself.
I can tar a particular folder on the server.
Opening Appleworks docs08 Sep 2006 23:02 GMT14
Besides of course AppleWorks, is there any application that can open up
AppleWorks documents? More specifically for us the AW docs and
spreadsheets?
With iWork taking ground I think we can safely say AppleWorks is dead
Mac Pro vs 1.8 Dual G5...08 Sep 2006 21:45 GMT15
A client of ours has a G5 dual 1.8Ghz machine. It's gone pear shaped
and needs a new system board it seems. Maybe more economic for them to
buy a Mac Pro with AppleCare.
The main apps the user uses are Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Sodit!! and some new bits08 Sep 2006 21:45 GMT4
Just ordered a new ATA Seagate Barracuda 160GB hard drive to go into my
Maxtor Firewire enclosure, only to find that this enclosure only works
up to 128GB. Bugger!
Off to Misco then to get a new enclosure, and found a Firewire and USB 2
Need Apple II bits - can anyone help?08 Sep 2006 21:40 GMT2
I'm now getting to be urgently in need of some Apple II parts to
complete an article.
I need an Apple IIgs Color Monitor (this looks like a 12" LC monitor,
but it's not the same), an Apple IIe tilting greenscreen monitor (not
Does Applecare provide onsite fix?08 Sep 2006 18:15 GMT10
If somebody bought a Mac Pro with 3 Year AppleCare would an engineer
visit them onsite to fix hardware faults?

and so far, they're disappointingly similar to the Core Duo ones that we
already had.  Nothing to report yet...
24" iMac question08 Sep 2006 16:13 GMT2
This is a bit of a follow on from my earlier question about memory for
the new 24" iMacs.
The top spec listed for the iMac is 3 gigabytes in the form of a 1
gigabyte module and a two gigabyte module.
Nokia E6108 Sep 2006 16:06 GMT5

iChatAV Help08 Sep 2006 14:42 GMT17
I finally found a situation where a video link would be useful but I
can't get it to work.
He's on a Mac and he can iChat to folks up and down the West coast of
'Merka.
Grammarian keeps failing08 Sep 2006 13:52 GMT-
I have the full copy of Grammarian Pro, but it keeps on disabling
itself. I use it mostly in MacSOUP, but also in other apps too. You can
tell when it happens as MacSOUP becomes unresponsive for a few seconds,
and then no more spelling.
Yeehhaarrrrr! it works - DVD-RW and hard drives.08 Sep 2006 13:52 GMT-
Just plugged in the new Pioneer DVR-111DBK dual layer DVD writer, and it
works a treat (at least on a CD from iTunes, I don't have any DL disks
as yet). I just had to unclip the front cover and stick on the one off
the old drive, but apart from that, no dramas.
Waiting for the meteorite strike08 Sep 2006 10:08 GMT44
Not only have I had trouble with the bloody Ethernet gear and the
printer.  Not only that, but one of my old G4's USB ports has just
packed up.  Not only that, but the new USB 2 hub is defective and needs
sending back.  Not only that, but my bike needed new front brake pads
[Long] New business: many questions (mostly on topic...)08 Sep 2006 07:05 GMT4
I'm about to take the big leap into self-employment as a PR consultant,
and I'd appreciate some advice (and don't worry about not struggling to
the end of this solid lump of Mac questions: I wouldn't blame you!)
I've bought my domain and I'm about to get it up and running. What's ...
