Help on becoming a Mac man!!15 Sep 2006 16:35 GMT49
I am now considering moving from being a PC user for many years, to a
Mac. Can anyone help me in deciding on what to buy? (and perhaps any
recommendations on where from in the UK)?
I have three school age daughters (9, 14 and 17) and need to get three
Why wouldn't I want a 24" iMac?15 Sep 2006 16:20 GMT12
I've got one of the 1.8ghz 20" G5 iMacs.  I put off replacing it when
the Intel iMacs were launched because other than being a bit quicker
(never having used one is it really a bit or is it a lot?) I couldn't
see any point in the purchase.
Anybody running pre-N WiFi ?15 Sep 2006 16:20 GMT5
My current 802.11g router (Linksys WAG54G) seems to be on the blink, so
I'm trying to decide whether to replace it with another cheap-ish
802.11g router or to splash out on pre-N gear. It seems that you can get
a good deal on a DSL moder/router + PCMICA card bundle:

iTunes 7 and Airport Express15 Sep 2006 16:19 GMT18
Anyone having any problems with this? I can no longer select my Express
as a source for playback - it's showing in the dropdown in iTunes but if
I try to select it it won't take it - it remains on Computer.
I've re-updated the Express settings but that didn't do it.
Accessing Samba shares on powerbook from windows15 Sep 2006 16:06 GMT1
I've been setting up samba sharing of my home directory and that of my
girlfriend from my powerbook G4 (tiger 10.4.7). Its working okay, except
for a slight niggle.
Each of us has a separate account on the powerbook, with different home
WalkaboutLib?15 Sep 2006 15:03 GMT-
I've just installed Cisco software for a Cisco wireless PC card on a
Wallstreet running OS9.2. But I can't use the card becuase the software
refuses to run, citing that it 'can't find (or launch - I forget which
now) WALKABOUTLIB'. What the bloody hell is 'walkaboutLib'? I
iTunes 7 ate my music15 Sep 2006 13:43 GMT21
iTunes 7 is rubbish, on my computer. I guess I should've paid attention
to the bit that says minimum requirement is a 500MHz G3, since my poor
old Titanium is only 400MHz.
Apart from breaking my scrollbar settings, the screen refresh problem

Writing web pages the hard way or using CMS ???15 Sep 2006 12:23 GMT8
With my website, I have a basic core of the most important pages up and
running.
Now I'd like to gradually add to them over time.
Given that I am using a standard template, the time to do a new page of
Finder type-ahead selection not working?15 Sep 2006 12:02 GMT-
Odd one - on this MacBook Pro that's just arrived (10.4.7, all latest
updates applied) selecting a file in Finder by typing bring the window
to the front and typing the first few characters  is not working.
Hasn't worked at all on this machine, working fine on the others.
Totally OT: Headphones15 Sep 2006 11:25 GMT26
Can anyone recommend a very good pair of in-ear headphones?
Those I currently use (£22, and state-of-the-art when purchased grief
knows how long ago) have started irritating the inside of my ear.
Does anyone have experience of the new Bose phones?
Hyperlinks in iPod notes...15 Sep 2006 11:25 GMT2
Having never played with the iPod's notes facility, I don't know how well
this works:
"Essentially, [iPod Notes] are just text files that can use HTML tags to
create hyperlinked, mini webpages that can reference and play songs and
