New screen of death16 Sep 2006 09:49 GMT5
For those of you that just can't resist bit-twiddling to get a Really
Customised OSX, how about creating a new kernel panic screen?

iTunes 7 - eeek! Memory usage16 Sep 2006 03:19 GMT2
937 meg of real memory in use! Hell's teeth. I'm sure v6 never did
that sort of nonsense... Is it all due to the artwork?
Experimenting with leaving Coverflow unviewed suggests yes. Starting
iTunes afresh tops out at around the 60meg mark. Open Coverflow and
Mac OS X networking craposity16 Sep 2006 01:31 GMT4
In some ways I feel I exhausted the limits of Mac-OS-X-is-crap ranting
some time around 2002. There remains one aspect of it in particular
which continues to get my goat, and which provides a rich seam for
further rage and frustration, and that is networking.
Are cameras and iPods allowed in handlaggage?15 Sep 2006 23:24 GMT11
Having been to the BAA website I can find lots of references to
cosmetics and liquids, and nothing banning cameras, iPod, phones,
laptops etc.
Anyone know what gadgetry is allowed on planes at the mo?
iTunes: Identifying 'lost' tracks15 Sep 2006 23:22 GMT-
I've been transferring tracks between disks and, in the progress, have
omitted to copy some tracks so I get the 'lost track' icon in iTunes.
I'm trying to get a definitive list of these tracks but I can't find any way
of either sorting the browser window on the exclamation mark ...
Urgent!!! Mac overheating?15 Sep 2006 22:51 GMT7
I have a Mac G5 1.8GHz dual core with one internal drive.
It's been running a routine for about two days now.
I just went around the back of it to attend to something else, and it
felt as though someone had left a bar heater on.

Oh dear, help please...15 Sep 2006 22:04 GMT5
I have managed to delete a composition of mine, an entire folder of audio
files, and the ProTools session file.
What is the best software to try and dig it out from my hard-drive please.
I think I accidentally deleted it when transferring to my iBook. Guess what,
iTunes 7 oddity15 Sep 2006 22:02 GMT22
Another one - add a song to party shuffle when the current trak has
about 10 seconds left, and the added song doesn't get played, but
appears in the recently played section instead.
How about you?
iBook feet15 Sep 2006 21:54 GMT7
Who said they had spare iBook feet? I just need the grey rubber bit,
might you have one spare?

Blocking video playback in Browsers...15 Sep 2006 21:50 GMT7
My 2 main printed news outlets are  the Guardian and The Sun online.
Recently the Sun has turned there site into an unusable mess by
embedding video content in WMV (I think) into the pages. Quicktime
standalone tends to chug at the best of times with WMV playing, but in a

So I was pottering about in the West Quay shopping centre this evening,
went past Dixons and then something caught my eye. One of the vacant
shops has been nabbed by Apple, nice big Apple logo on an all black
background. I know we talked about this back in May but I think it's now

Best introductory book for someone leaving the Dark Side?15 Sep 2006 17:12 GMT1
All,
A friend has asked for help. He's just ordered a new iMac, returning to
Macs after a ten-year absence. He knows nothing of OS X - and his
partner knows nothing about Macs at all......
