VNS connection into Tiget stopped working.02 Aug 2006 13:24 GMT3
I've been able to connect from work via VNC to my MacBook pro running
Tiger, going through my D-Link DSL router.
However it's now stopped working. The Windows client can connect via
VNC, and displays the host name, but no screen data gets transferred.

Newton vs UMPC02 Aug 2006 09:32 GMT5
Specifically, a shootout between the Newton Messagepad 2000 and the Samsung

I'm actually kind of tempted to get a Newton off eBay, if only to see what
MacBook Pro quiet!02 Aug 2006 07:05 GMT9
Got my MBP 15" back today (that was quick, they collected it friday!) and
it's fixed. Sounds much quieter than before. Obviously there is a very
slight hiss from two processor running, but it's nowhere near as loud as it
was before.
Network drives mounting ... wrongly01 Aug 2006 22:48 GMT26
A couple of different effects I've noticed, and wonder if anyone can
shed light on.
Mounting FTP sites in the Finder: Tried this for the first time
yesterday, in the spirit of adventure (and because I had a website to
Client-server backups01 Aug 2006 22:48 GMT2
I know that Retrospect will allow me to have a machine that sits in the
spare room, looking out for laptops, and backing them up when they appear
on the network. No user interaction required.
Is there any other non-Retrospect way of achieving the same thing? There

File transfer from PC to Mac?01 Aug 2006 22:05 GMT2
There's some rather big files on my Dad's PC that I need to transfer
across to my Powerbook, and I'm after a suggestion of the easiest way.
Now I often transfer files back and forth between my iMac and Powerbook
with temporary hooking up via Ethernet, and I'd like to hope that doing

10.3 on 7600?01 Aug 2006 20:58 GMT2
I've sort of asked this question before .....
I've got a Sonnet G4 card in my 7600 with 1 Gb RAM and I'm running
10.2.8, which works fine.
Can anybody confirm that 10.3 will work? I think 10.3 must have USB? I
MindManager uk prices?01 Aug 2006 20:57 GMT2
I've tried to get a serial for MindManager through their U.S. site but
their shopping cart won't let me navigate to it. And yet, looking at
the prices the U.S. retailers are charging, the U.S. price is half what
the UK price is.

Syncing01 Aug 2006 19:18 GMT12
My brother in law in Basel (whose nice quick cable connection is
gracefully on loan to me before I go to the trackless dialup wastes in
Geneva) has an AlBook and a G4 tower, both running 10.4.7. He'd like to
sync address books (using Address Book) and email (using Mail) on the
Folder Sharing01 Aug 2006 16:35 GMT2
Is there any way I can turn on sharing of public folders on a remote
computer when I can only connect via SSH? If so, once enabled, how can I
select specific folders to share?
Thanks.
