Always learning...09 Aug 2006 10:24 GMT7
One of the fun things about doing tutorials with "clueless" customers is
they ask you those questions like "Can't you arrange your iPhoto images
in the order you want?"
Up until then I'd never even thought of it. And in the View->Sort Photos
Time Machine - thoeries on how it will work?09 Aug 2006 09:05 GMT11
Anyone like to take a guess how Time Machine will work?
Are third-party apps going to need plugins to make use of it? It seems
very app-centric, I wonder whether you can restore files without having
to be in Finder or another app (ie you can search the archive for a

Jim's WWDC Predictions08 Aug 2006 23:16 GMT51
Time once again for me to make a complete fool of myself. Here are my
WWDC predictions:
Intel transition complete. Mac Pros and XServes to be Intelled. XServe
and top end Mac Pro will be Woodcrest-powered quad core machines, the
browsing Windows PC shared folder on Macbook via wifi ?08 Aug 2006 23:02 GMT5
I'd love to get a Macbook, but as my desktop is a Windows pc, I would like
to be able to open files from a shared folder via wifi.
I asked an Apple sales chap, but he said it's not possible, but via google I
found an apple.com article about browsing Windows.
ADSL wireless routers which support WDS?08 Aug 2006 23:01 GMT4
My sister's router has just died, and she needs another. I really don't
keep that up to date with models, so can't come up with a
recommendation off the top of my head.
Are there any models which will support using an Airport Express as a
Time machine query?08 Aug 2006 22:21 GMT3
Time Machine: if the backup device isn't plugged in, is it going to
cache the changed files until the backup device becomes available? I'm
really tight for disk space on my lappy; many people are. This could
limit its usefulness...
Olympus RAW format08 Aug 2006 21:36 GMT1
I've just got an Olympus E-500 - very pleased with it, a lot of useful
features I wasn't even aware off. For example, two memory card slots,
for xD and CF, which can both be loaded with cards. Takes a couple of
seconds to switch between cards.

PVR Mac Apps08 Aug 2006 18:03 GMT-
Although I don't have a Topfield PVR, there's some nice little apps that
act standalone at:

I've just installed the ToppyEPG, and it works quite nicely.
MacBook Pro problem with DVD08 Aug 2006 14:37 GMT-
Are there any known issues with MacBook Pro DVD drives? A friend in Italy
has just bought a MacBook Pro. He also has a MacBook, the MacBook wil play
back DVD movies just fine, his Pro refuses to play some of his movies (but
not all). It simply clicks and then after a time ejects the ...
12" G4 powerbook brightness keys broken08 Aug 2006 13:25 GMT2
I dropped my powerbook the other day.  It only fell about a foot, but
it was a hard landing.  It logged me out (it had been asleep), then
took ages to log in before I decided I had to reset it.  Not hopeful.
After the reset, it seems to be working OK, but the brightness control
Min spec for Leopard?08 Aug 2006 13:14 GMT5
Did this crop up at some point?

Unpredictable shut down08 Aug 2006 09:04 GMT-
I'm not sure if this is new battery issue or a Tiger issue since I
bought a new battery for my G4 17in PowerBook and upgraded to Tiger at
about the same time but.... When I close the lid, instead of just going
to sleep, it sometimes shuts down altogether. Sometimes it can be
