Firewire problems31 Aug 2006 23:21 GMT7
Yesterday I was archiving some pictures to DVD from the iBook so I
unplugged the external drives (IcyBooks) from the iMac G3's Firewire
port into the iBook.
All went well.
Cheap flatbed scanner recommendations?31 Aug 2006 23:21 GMT9
What's good, what's to be avoided? 600dpi is fine. To be used under
Photoshop Elements under 10.4 on G4 Mac Minis.
Thanks,
Stuart
Tigeraid31 Aug 2006 21:50 GMT3
Can Tiger do RAID-5 in software? Looking at the help for DiskUtility it
appears not, but still.
Said help also states:
"To create a RAID set, you must use two or more SCSI or IDE hard disks. When

More "I'm a Mac" ads31 Aug 2006 20:21 GMT1
I don't know how long these have been out but I see there's another
batch of "I'm a Mac... I'm a PC..." ads:
<http://www.apple.com/getamac/>. I like the spyware one, but I'm easily
amused.
Buying a Macbook - Merom in September?31 Aug 2006 18:13 GMT15
I want to buy a Macbook in September - it's sounding like it'd be a
good idea to hold off until the 16th or so in case a Merom upgrade
appears.
I'm a Mac newbie, so could anyone comment on:

parallels - hardware question...31 Aug 2006 16:23 GMT3
with parallels running XP on a new macbook, is all hardware available
pretty much transparently to the windows install?  what i'm after is a
hint that stuff like DVDshrink will still work - a mate tried it on his
macbook/parallels system and it didn't but haven't debugged why yet.
Applescript - accepting dragged URLs?31 Aug 2006 16:11 GMT2
Is it possible to have an Applescript droplet that accepts (and
processes) a URL dragged from an address bar?
I have something funny going on here in that a droplet I have knocked up
for testing [1] will accept URLs dragged from Safari, but not from
Printing onto very small paper?31 Aug 2006 15:54 GMT6
Can anyone suggest a way that I can print onto a piece of paper that's
5cm x 9cm?
It's too small to feed through the Laser printer (Xerox 4400), and
although the Canon IP5200 will feed it through (in portrait layout), it

Anyone used electrobytes.co.uk?31 Aug 2006 12:04 GMT3
Anyone here ever used electrobytes.co.uk - especially recently? I've ordered
an mp3 player from them and still not received it over a week later (despite
saying they do same day despatch).
Emails to them have elicited no response and their online help seems to be
Webshop Numpty31 Aug 2006 11:22 GMT6
I keep on dithering about how to set up a web shop for work
I think the long term solution is OSCommerce due to its flexibility, but
I don't think it's an option for the short term as I don't speak SQL.
So I think I need more of a noddy one to start with and I'll have to
Smartdisk disk replacement31 Aug 2006 08:28 GMT7
Embarrassing isn't it. I've been playing with Macs since the SE was a
big deal and I've never changed a hard disk. My Smartdisk firewire drive
has died and I have a couple of questions:
First question: how do I get the connectors out from the controller bit?
