OMG! An Improvement!01 May 2006 00:21 GMT39
I tested my Internet connection this morning b downloading a SuSE ISO from
mirror.ac.uk. It stabilised at around 750KB/s! That's what I'm paying £30
a month for. I hope it holds and I hope everyone else's connections sort
themselves out soon.

Help me get Windows running on my iMac30 Apr 2006 22:10 GMT4
I've opened up my new shiny, updated the firmware and created the Mac
Drivers CD as specified in the Boot Camp instructions. I've burned
myself a Windows XP SP2 CD from my MSDN Universal subscription DVDs.
Now, when the boot camp assistant asks for the Windows CD, I put it in,
BBEdit - full screen window30 Apr 2006 21:28 GMT4
Every time I make a new file in bbedit, it goes to full window size,
which at 1680x1024 is never how big I want a source file!
I tried the usual methods of creating a new document, resizing it how I
want and then closing it, then looking through the prefs for a setting

Will the Intel replacements of the G5 Towers need to be massive towers?30 Apr 2006 21:01 GMT8
As they won't need to be cooled by big fans and stuff?
Or will the towers just be scrapped?
Or will apple make some sort of duo-quad jobbie?
MySQL: Where have all the passwords gone?30 Apr 2006 18:29 GMT16
I installed a new version of MySQL
(mysql-standard-5.0.19-osx10.4-powerpc) and it seems to have changed the
MySQL root password.

Mini and DVI30 Apr 2006 16:42 GMT4
I've just got a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleoview S20-1W monitor, which has
both DVI and VGA inputs. The VGA input works fine with my mini and the
VGA adaptor. The DVI input doesn't work at all: the monitor says there
is no signal and goes to sleep. Is this likely to be a problem with ...
How long can an audio CD be?30 Apr 2006 12:54 GMT7
I have a bunch of audio tapes that I wanted to digitise. They're fairly
low quality recordings of seminars, so the digital files don't need to
be CD quality. I recorded them at 22.050 kHz, 16 bit mono, so I've ended
up with 283 minutes of audio, taking around 700 Mb of AIFF file.

Postfix, ETRN and retrieval from POP boxes..30 Apr 2006 10:12 GMT2
I've posted this on the OS X Server mailing list, but the reply I've got
have confused me somewhat, so I hoping someone here might have an opinion.
I'll be visiting a customer next week who've been sold an Xserve G5 by
someone with the promise it'll fix all their problems, but ...

to connect this to a Powermac G5 as a second display.  What sort of

I don't know if many readers are into hi-spec photography,
but I found this very exciting! I will probably stay Nikon, and
dream on!
