Is there a definitive list of which DVD -R +R -RW +RW work with the Mac G4 /
G5 running Jaguar or Panther?
Or any info on this would be great. I know the Pioneer A05 works great in

A couple of questions...31 Jan 2004 21:27 GMT6
First a happy, if somewhat belated, new year to you all :-)
Now to the meat of the matter.
From the day I bought my first iMac I thought I would never have to
deal with one of those PC thingummys again (at least not at home).
Powerbook feet31 Jan 2004 21:23 GMT10
Just noticed, while checking instructions for adding new memory to this 'ere
G4 Powerbook, that one of the as well as Airport card and Memory, the OTHER
thing that the brave "User" can add is... Feet.
And since the feet have fallen off this one, and I have the instructions
G3 going slow31 Jan 2004 21:04 GMT2
A friend has just been given(!) a beige G3 desktop Mac running OS 9.2
with oodles of RAM.
I went to help him set it up and found that it was absolutely crawlingly
slow.  Control Panels were taking tens of seconds to open.
Panther Fubar31 Jan 2004 20:30 GMT4
I suffered a nasty disk corruption under Panther a few days
ago, causing it to panic on boot, and preventing me from
even selecting the OS9 system from boot-up by pressing option.
I had to reformat in the end as the filesystem was severely

I'm at work so I haven't tried the demo, but it looks good. I love
Transmit, so hopefully it's of the same quality.

moving data from Powermac 8200 to iMac31 Jan 2004 18:23 GMT1
I am under heavy pressure from my children to upgrade to an iMac from
our current PowerMac 8200/100. My main question is how would I
transfer data from my old Mac to the new one. I asked at the Mac Expo
last year and a couple of people told me it was rather complicated and

Is there a MacOS X equivalent to 'truss' or 'strace'?31 Jan 2004 13:53 GMT4
A helpful tool in tracking problems in applications is a log of all
calls the application makes to the kernel. Both Solaris with 'truss'
and Linux with 'strace' have such a tool.
Is there a similar one available under MacOS X?
Interesting alias change on desktop (Panther)31 Jan 2004 13:16 GMT3
I'm sure this is nothing bad, but I just wondered what it was.
I have some aliases of Word documents on my desktop. I was dragging them
around - gotta look right, dontcha know - and I happened to drag one
onto a Sticky.
Version control?31 Jan 2004 11:36 GMT1
I've bee wanting to get an old version of Mail open so I could check a
couple of things. But v1.2 will not open with 10.3.2.
Check in the .plist in the apps but there doesn't appear to be a string
saying what version of the OS is required to run the program.
More SSH advice needed.31 Jan 2004 04:33 GMT7
Hi again everyone
I followed the (good) advice you gave me about trying to get this up and
running using a SSH client on the mac to connect to a SSH server on the PC
(Windows 98). I've got Cygwin and OpenSSH running on the PC. When I try to

What are the lumps on cables?30 Jan 2004 23:24 GMT26
Lots of cables (USB and FireWire) have heavy cylindrical things near the
plug. What are they?
I need to connect my digitiser box (the Can 'o Pus) to the Mac using a much
longer FireWire cable than the one supplied, but I'm worried it might not
