Using wget31 Jul 2009 21:06 GMT8
Downloaded and installed wget.
Tried to get a video from Google video (looked in page contents and got the
URL of the swf file), but wget gives a "access denied" error:
Cannot write to 'googleplayer.swf?docid=-[long id]' (permission denied)
ssh problem31 Jul 2009 03:11 GMT1
"Remote Login" is checked on a user's iMac but when I try to connect
from my Mac or another location, nothing happens -- not even a
failure.  I can of course connect via ssh from my Mac to other Macs so
that's not the problem.
Mac G5 Overheating30 Jul 2009 19:52 GMT8
I have a Mac G5 and live in a warm climate. When the temperature gets
into the 80's the Mac's fan comes on and stays on for a long time. Is
this normal? I've heard that dust builds up inside of computers and
needs to be cleaned out now and then. Could this be causing the
Problems moving/consolidating iTunes Library from one external drive     to another30 Jul 2009 15:13 GMT1
I've done a bunch of googling, and this seems to be a unique problem.
I need to move my library from one external drive to another.
I did what Apple and Cnet recommend -- the consolidate feature -- and
it was problematic. Every 5 GB or so I would get some error that would
Limits of Mac Speech Recognition30 Jul 2009 09:20 GMT1
Every app has its limits, "MacSpeech Dictate 1.5"
is no exception.
Below is a difficult example, a biology "extract" from
a Chinese university.

Stealth Mode29 Jul 2009 06:16 GMT9
Is there a reason that Apple does not have stealth mode on as the
default?  I just recommended to all my users that they enable stealth
mode and two people wrote back asking why it was not the default.  The
implication being: is there some downside to it?   I've had it set
Newbie to Mac--book reco to better understand the OS??27 Jul 2009 16:14 GMT3
I am very familiar with PCs, but have just purchased our first Mac (24"
iMac with lastest OS) (after being hounded by our 20's daughters).  I
would like to ramp up quickly.  For example, I want to find an address
file in Thunderbird in order to update it with my PC version, but ...
Worried about getting trampled in rush to buy MacSpeech27 Jul 2009 12:12 GMT12
Mac users have had to endure a long dry spell
while Widows users gloated for years about Dragon.
I sense a stampede is overdue to buy Dragon.
I better throw a little water on the fire, so will post
Leopard Firewall27 Jul 2009 07:10 GMT6
So I have finally taken the plunge & gotten myself an MBP running 10.5.7. In
getting it setup I soon stumble over the new app-specific Firewall: neither can
I print nor scan unless I "allow all incoming traffic", i.e. turn the fw
off...:-(  I tried the "essential applications" ...

I'm just now having to transfer one of my Macs to OS X. I've been using
9.2.2 for years and intend to continue using it. It fulfilled all of my
requirements until recently.
My wife's Mac does not connect to the internet, nor does she ever want it
