| Advantage of knowing a tiny bit about Vista and unix | 01 Oct 2008 00:03 GMT | 55 |
Reasons for learning a bit about unix and Vista. Notice I lumped them together, that is because they are both difficult, when with a little design effort, they could have been made _easy_ , like good old

| Question about ethernet addresses | 30 Sep 2008 09:16 GMT | 7 |
Hoping one of you sharp IT guys can answer a question about ethernet addresses on my Mac. So far, I seem to be coming up with two different addresses for a single machine, and I wonder which one is lying to me. Running System Profiler yields the following for my G5's MAC address

| Ping Mark Conrad--Hex zero revisited | 30 Sep 2008 01:49 GMT | 22 |
Hi Mark, I hope this gets through. I've started a new thread because I have _twice_ tried to respond to the thread you started; and, while what I quoted of your post got through, what _I_ wrote did not in both cases. (Maybe it's the NSA!)

| "Techno-Geekism" [Quite Off Topic] | 30 Sep 2008 00:57 GMT | 8 |
It seems that increasingly electronic appliances, computers, microwaves, and on-and-on, are becoming increasingly, and to me, unnecessarily, complex, and I get the feeling that the reason is often "just because it is easy to do". This really has come to my attention with a problem ...

| max size for single-layer DVD? | 29 Sep 2008 07:48 GMT | 4 |
When backing up to DVD, I seem to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the max size is for a single-layer DVD+R or DVD-R. I just tried 4.23 GB and that didn't fit. If they know the folders I'm trying to burn are too big, why can't Apple just tell us how much we

| Proxy nightmare | 29 Sep 2008 01:14 GMT | 2 |
Well I don't find a way to get rid of a universitary proxy, it would be great if someone could help me (at least with an explication of some sort). I have this proxy that has only open the ports 22 and 80 (apparently),

| Burning .avi movie files to DVD format | 28 Sep 2008 21:11 GMT | 1 |
What program would you recommend so I can take .avi movie files and convert them into DVD format, so they work on regular DVD players. Something that would let me create a menu, etc. I'm not looking for anything fancy and expensive, just something cheap that does the
