Can't install Leopard31 Aug 2008 13:24 GMT9
I'm unable to install OS 10.5 on my PowerBook G4, when I put in the
DVD, it restarts, asks me to choose a language and then says "Cannot
be installed on this computer". I've checked the specs and eveything
seems ok:
R.I.P. iCards... what to use now?31 Aug 2008 04:51 GMT8
I'm sure most people probably thought that iCards were stupid, but I
absolutely loved them. The simplicity of them was very cool. They really
made a nice way to remember someone's birthday or special occasion
without the idiocy of having to go to some website and create a login
Fastest secure erasing of HD's?31 Aug 2008 00:58 GMT300
When you zero out the data it can take quite a while.  Several passes
takes hours for most hard drives. I was wondering if it helps the
security aspect to change the partitioning scheme in Disk Utility.  One
could partition in Guid then Apple Partition Map then MBR in less than a ...

If you have several users on a mac and more than one user enables the
web server, which users web site will you get?
ie.  Say the host has an IP address of 192.168.1.100 and there are
several users on that computer each with their own 'Sites' directory

Do you think this will work?30 Aug 2008 16:41 GMT57
We want to get rid of our virus-laden pcs and stuff that never connected
properly and turn over a new leaf with Apple. (So few choices = much simpler).
With the help of the guy at the store we've picked out two iMacs, two
macbooks and one airport express (for music capability).  I ...
If you're looking for help and info - use Google.30 Aug 2008 16:39 GMT3
You may occasionally run across a useful post here but far more
professional information is found on thousands of web pages dedicated to
the Mac.  I support those that spend far too much time in front of a
computer come here for a poor substitute for human contact.
Mac Mini Media Center?30 Aug 2008 15:30 GMT15
(I *think* the following is on topic, since it addresses another use of
the Mac OS.)
I have a Core Solo Mini laying around and I'm thinking of making it, and
new flat screen TV, the center of a media setup, instead of using Apple
Airport/Ethernet Connection Question?30 Aug 2008 15:24 GMT3
I have an iMac Intel connected to a Netgear Wirless ADSL Wireless router via
Ethernet and Airport.
The internet works fine as does the LAN with my sons Mac which connects ONLY
via Airport. But on my iMac, if I disable the Airport connection, the LAN
Corrupt media30 Aug 2008 14:47 GMT1
I figure that line ought to get someone to look, at least 8-)
I got really ambitious this morning and started copying some old fotos
from ZIP disks(my G4 can read almost anything) into my master foto
archive on an external HD.  No problem until the last one.  It froze the
desktop 'passepartout'?29 Aug 2008 23:54 GMT1
Lately, my Leopard Desktop sometimes has a strange 'passepartout'
on the desktop, which is like a dimmed frame around the whole desktop
*below* the menubar. The background picture is dimmed in that frame, as
are all parts of windows that are moved there (see

Just to set this up, I have tried Google and Yahoo, looking for info on
Keynote, part of iWork 06, but I keep getting links to Jobs' keynote
speeches, even with iWork throwin into the puzzle.
I am new at Keynote, and I am trying to learn how to do a couple things
