Computer turns on unexpectedly28 Jul 2008 02:22 GMT39
I've lately taken to shutting down my iMac (running 10.5.4) at night,
because of electricity problems in my aparatment (I always used to keep
it on but asleep).
I've found that it turns itself on at 1 a.m. and I have no idea why.
Ok. New thread, continuation of wireless question28 Jul 2008 01:50 GMT6
First, thanks everyone for all of the useful information. Second, sorry
about breaking the posting rules. Just wasn't thinking this morning.
I'm trying to understand this. iStumbler shows my network as Open

Mac filename characters incompatible with windows27 Jul 2008 23:06 GMT1
I read a comment a while ago that certain characters we can use in Mac
filenames cannot be read by Windows. Does anyone know what characters
those are?
Thanks.
Q: What happened to my Wireless question?27 Jul 2008 20:09 GMT10
This is most weird. I asked the question about wireless connections,
got a response and then replied back to that response. Later on that
day the response and my replies disappeared and just my original
question remained.  What appened? The first reply to my question was
numeric keypad on Macbook Pro27 Jul 2008 19:54 GMT2
obviously Apple silently removed the "virtual" numeric keypad from the new
Macbook Pro. But not only the little numbers depicted on the keys but the
functionality as well :-(
Thus, is there a way to reinstall this functionality? I don't want to add an

Time Machine - Effects of Disk Interface Speed?27 Jul 2008 10:25 GMT6
I was wondering what folks' experience has been regarding the use of
various disk interfaces to the Time Machine feature.
I've run USB 2.0 and Firewire, but have not really noticed much of a
perceptible effect on performance. Has anyone noticed any real
Toast Titanium 5.2.1 --> 5.2.3 updater27 Jul 2008 05:54 GMT5
I need the Toast Titanium 5.2.1 --> 5.2.3 updater, but it is no longer
downloadable from the Roxio web site. Does anyone have this updater?
Thanks.

running classic on a powermac G527 Jul 2008 05:09 GMT4
I have a powermacG5 which is running os 10.4.11 and I'd like to run os 9
on it. My problem is that I cant' boot my os 9 cd. I've read a lot and I
found that the 10.4 system wants 9.1.  When I try to boot with os 9
disks it always boots os X and asks for me to put in my password.
Q: Wireless Connection27 Jul 2008 02:23 GMT5
Forgive the newbie question but do wireless routers lose their signal
strength after a couple of years of use? I've always had good luck with
Linksys routers (wired and wireless) but over the last year or so I've
noticed that my signal "meter" on the laptops drops to one or two bars
Mobile someone else27 Jul 2008 01:01 GMT12
I don't have a laptop, my work computer is a Windows machine (and I
synchronize Opera and Firefox bookmarks from there to home already).
I don't have Apple's preferred provider, so the iPhone is not an
option.
In setting a monitors Hz rate is that just a flicker thing?26 Jul 2008 23:40 GMT2
In setting a monitors Hz rate is that just a flicker thing?
Is a higher rate always better?
Will a higher or lower rate cause the monitor to wear out or consume
more power faster?
Compatibility with PCs...26 Jul 2008 17:44 GMT4
I have a web server that is provided by a vendor of a system in my

It's a linux based server, and lately since I've updated my Safari the
web access to the server seems busted.
