Classic consuming lots of CPU time?20 Jun 2008 19:19 GMT7
I happened to notice last night that the remaining battery time on my
Powerbook was much less than I would have expected given how I was using it.
It's something like a six-month old battery so I was feeling annoyed, of
course, fearing it was failing prematurely.  For some reason ...

What is the unsubsidized price for the new 3G iPhone?20 Jun 2008 16:00 GMT7
When I first read the news release about Apple's new 3G iPhone I
thought it meant the list price of the phones would be $199 and $299.
But today I read on CNET that $199 and $299 are the subsidized AT&T
prices. Hence could you buy a 3G iPhone without a 2 year contract and
Very Basic Questions about a Used G4 Cube?20 Jun 2008 10:30 GMT1
I have a used G4 cube without a power supply and would like to know:
   1.  How can I tell if it has an ethernet card?
   2.  Will the mac systems in the G4 Cubes run a zip drive or do I
need to install software for this?
Strange Finder issue20 Jun 2008 09:24 GMT2
10.5.3, fresh install last night and immediately updated to 10.5.3.
It's a Mac Pro purchased in Dec of 2007.
We have an Xsan volume mounted.  On that Xsan volume the user can write
from various applications such as FCP to files that already exist, he
Change Desktop Background Context Menu20 Jun 2008 05:54 GMT5
I have a whacky, low priority question, but I'd still appreciate some
advice on how to fix it.  I recently downgraded from Leopard to Tiger
on my mini.  The system actually failed to boot after a upgrade to
Leopard so I decided to go back to Tiger using archive and install.
Alt and Shift+Alt in Mac OS X19 Jun 2008 20:50 GMT3
I recently noticed that holding down either the Alt key, or the Shift
and Alt keys in combination, allows you to type a number of non-standard
characters in Mac OS X.  To demonstrate: 票Ø
Does anyone know of a document explaining this functionality further, or
Splitting Off System Audio?19 Jun 2008 17:13 GMT9
I have a friend who wants to connect her iMac (core duo, OS X 10.5) to
her home stereo receiver.  The only hitch is that she wants the system
audio to continue coming out of the computer speakers while everything
else is routed to the receiver.
Leopard on Non-Intel Macs19 Jun 2008 15:46 GMT29
My BIL has hired an "expert" (according to him) to set up a new MacBookPro.
While doing so, he also set up Time Capsule for wireless backup.
When he asked the guy about putting Leopard in his iMac G5, so that machine
could also utilize Time Capsule the guy replied that Leopard was ...
TM is one time deal19 Jun 2008 12:42 GMT14
I accidentally disconnected my TM drive from the computer (meant to
disconnect the mouse). I had to play around with shutting down the
computer, disconnecting the drive, powering the drive down,
reconnecting, powering up and telling my iMac to use the drive for TM.
iPod and Time Machine19 Jun 2008 09:48 GMT7
Using latest version of Leopard on a G4 iMac with a firewire backup
drive attached.
Everytime I attach my ipod, Time Machine starts a backup.
Anyone have a guess as to what is going on and how I can stop it?
What about the new iPhone that it doesn't run iChat?19 Jun 2008 09:21 GMT6
I've been only into Macs (with my iMac) for a really short time now,
but I thought an iPhone could run almost any Mac application that a
desktop Mac could run (within reason that is),  So why can't the new
iPhone run iChat?
Ical does not install can I just reinstall it?19 Jun 2008 02:52 GMT3
Error while installing OS 10.3. I got an error with installed disk 2.
Ical will not work it just shuts down as fast as it starts. Is there a
way I can do an install of just ical and not have to reinstall the OS
and the other  I-apps?
I hate it when a disk can't be unmounted.18 Jun 2008 18:55 GMT4
I use a lot of external backup drives and it often happens that when a
backup is complete and I try to unmount a drive that I get a message
such as the one that I am looking at now: "The disk 'Mirrored Raid' is
in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting applications and try
Any experience installing Ubuntu 8.04 using "Wubi" in a WinXP BootCamp partition?18 Jun 2008 18:05 GMT1
Dear friends:
Do you have any experience installing Ubuntu 8.04 using "Wubi" in a
existing WinXP BootCamp partition?
I understand that "Wubi" installs Ubuntu in the same partition that
