Mapping Home Network???28 Jun 2008 05:50 GMT19
How can I map my home network?  That is, draw a map of the IP
addresses and topology of the thing?
Best tools/approaches?  Ideas?
TIA!
Multi windowed programs28 Jun 2008 05:24 GMT47
I keep running away whenever I try a multi-window program.   I get so
frustrated trying to find a particular window, especially if I'm
running another program, such as my browser pointed to the help for
that product.

Is there a command that can be run from the terminal to make
the OSX box sleep?  I know about the GUI way, but sometimes I want
to start a backup remotely and script to go to sleep afterwards
(but not shutdown).
Can Office 2008 and Office 2004 co-exist?27 Jun 2008 23:44 GMT8
I recently purchased Office 2008 for a Mac Lab of 25 iMacs and then
learned that Excel 2008 has been lobotomized by Microsoft so that it
no longer includes VBA/Data Analysis and Solver.  So I'm wondering if
its possible to have Office 2008 and Office 2004 installed at the same
Time Machine disconnects USB backup drive - Any thoughts?27 Jun 2008 20:48 GMT2
I am using a iOmega USB drive that was recommended and sold by Apple
for my Time Machine backup drive.  Every time I go to Time  Machind and
revert to an older date the program freezes and then I get a device
removal error.  I have to shut off the drive and restart it.  But that
Dictionary.app IPA shows wrong characters27 Jun 2008 20:44 GMT5
Those of you familiar with IPA will know the U.S. pronunciation of "cat"
is /kæt/ (ae ligature).  But, when set to display pronunciations in U.S.
English (IPA), Dictionary.app shows it as /køt/ (o with slash.) It's
not just with "cat" either.  Every word that I can find that ...
Question Mark in Dock27 Jun 2008 18:56 GMT5
OS X 10.5.3, Intel
In an earlier version of OS X, perhaps as early as 10.4.9, I had
installed the printer icon permanently on the dock.
For reasons I won't go into I had to delete and reinstall the printer
Spaces: I just don't get it...27 Jun 2008 18:29 GMT145
What advantages is there to using Spaces? I flip between apps all day
long, and find it easier to work in a single space.

leopard on 1GHz eMac?27 Jun 2008 16:57 GMT12
Has anyone any experience of running 10.5 on a 1GHz eMac? My ex- has one
and I'm wondering if it might give some performance gain, or at least
not break. 768 MB of RAM if I recall correctly. I've got it running well
on a 1 GHz G4 iMac here, with same amount of RAM.

Lost some internet connectivity26 Jun 2008 23:05 GMT6
We have a Blue-and-White running 10.4.11 that has recently developed a
very odd connectivity problem. Firefox works, Mail works, Adium's
*messaging* works, but...
Apple Software Update, iTunes Store and Adium's auto-update do *not*
su -c and 10.5.3.server26 Jun 2008 21:19 GMT4
Apparently "su -c" does not exist in 10.5.3 server.  There is also a
problem with individual crontabs.  I need to run a job as a user but I
have to put it in root's crontab to make it work.  What is the
appropriate command if I have the following:
