(Error code -36) copying stuff21 May 2008 18:32 GMT26
I'm having some real problems backing up some lossless audio files.  So
many get this error code.  What is irritating with OS X is that it stops
the entire copying procedure because one file can't be read.  It would
be so much better if a pop up window came up ASKing the user if ...
unable to delete certain files21 May 2008 18:00 GMT22
I had occasion to delete Appleworks from my computer. I attempted to use the
uninstall program on the Appleworks installer disk. Ran it according to the
directions, and saw an apparent uninstall in progress. Got a message that the
uninstallation was successful except that certain ...
Kernel_task 1.20gb?21 May 2008 05:27 GMT3
Wondering what others' readings are.  Go to Activity Monitor, make sure
your Toolbar is displayed, then make sure All Processes is being
displayed.  Click on Virtual Memory to sort and probably kernel_task
will be at the top.  With Executor right below it.  I use 2gb 667mhz

Problem with Cron?20 May 2008 22:27 GMT40
For some time now I have had SuperDuper! set up so that each night two smart
backup runs will occur, one at 2:00 A.M. and one at 5:00 A.M. My Energy Saver
preferences are set so that the computer never sleeps and the screen will
sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Searching for folders20 May 2008 22:11 GMT27
I just got my new iMac today, took the day off and been playing with
it all day. Not sure if I made a big mistake or not. Maybe it will
seem better in a few days.
One of the disturbing things I've discovered is that Spotlight, that

client Time Machine backup to Xserve disk?20 May 2008 07:14 GMT9
Is it possible to set up a client Mac to use Time Machine to backup to
a home directory on a Leopard Server?  If not, what is the best
alternative?  If so, can I make the mount of the home directory
passwordless (provided e.g. by passwordless SSH)?  Thanks.
Free YouTube Video Downloader Software20 May 2008 07:09 GMT15
Friends,
Here is an absolutely free tool to download any video from YouTube.
SmoothTube downloads videos from YouTube and converts them to MPEG
format, which is supported by almost all media players and devices. It
/usr/lib or /usr/bin for user added binaries?20 May 2008 06:45 GMT5
If I want to add a precompiled binary for terminal use, is the right
location /usr/bin or /usr/sbin? Is it correct that we shouldn't add
binaries to /bin?
System doesn't recognize external disk20 May 2008 06:10 GMT12
My old PB3400 died recently, looks like a power problem.
After some attempts to ressurect i decided to let it RIP.

VHS to DVD combo recorders. Worthwhile?19 May 2008 23:58 GMT12
I have many VHS tapes - mostly TV 1/2hr, 1 hr Specials shows. I want to
create DVDs from them. And if possible, to edit out the commercials,
etc. Is there a maximum standard time limit to DVDs?
Looking at prior messages (2007 and before), it seemed like a hastle to
wake up iMac19 May 2008 18:44 GMT9
Does anyone know of a way to program an iMac to come out of hibernation at
a certain time each day? Like a digital thermostat, programmable for M-F
and S-S?
Thanks!
Question:  How do I go about erasing free space on a Mac?19 May 2008 08:33 GMT3
Hi. I got a new Mac for my birthday and my parents are making me give
my old one to my younger sister. I don't want the letters and photos
that I trashed resurrected by her. Thank you.
