change computer name05 May 2008 15:03 GMT3
How do you change the computer name? Not the hard disk, but the
computer name (ie) "John Doe's MacBook" to something else?
data transfer PC -> Mac (sort of)05 May 2008 11:25 GMT6
I've got a newish (still Tiger) MacBook Pro and an antiquated old
Frankenstein of a PC that I put together in high school with spare
parts. I have gigs upon gigs of data (music, mostly) on my PC that I'd
like to keep, but I want to get rid of the damn thing. I don't
network05 May 2008 06:15 GMT8
I have a MacBook Pro (Leopard) and an eMac (Tiger) on my network. In the
eMac's finder, under Network, the MacBook Pro is listed, even when File
Sharing is not enabled on either machine. But on the MBP, the eMac will
no show up under Network unless I enable File Sharing on the ...
X11 + Leopard + second monitor05 May 2008 04:54 GMT1
When I upgraded my Macbook Pro to Leopard shortly after it was
released, I found that the problem I had of not being able to drag X
windows to my second monitor went away, a problem that persisted under
Tiger. Because I use a couple of X11 applications all day long in my
Wifi Security For Dummies05 May 2008 04:48 GMT3
My dad comes to me for help with computers, and today, he came to me
with something completely outside my area of expertise, so I'm hoping
you guys can help me.
It concerns wireless networking.  Keep in mind, I don't know anything
MacBook Pro Charger Light05 May 2008 00:23 GMT4
Frequently, when my MacBook Pro is fully charged, the green light on the
plug goes out.  Re-plugging turns it back on, but why does it go off?
Help says it should either be amber or green.  Could one of the
connectors be oxidized and should I worry about this?
For Billy Y. about eMac04 May 2008 15:06 GMT8
I did what you suggested with my friend's eMac (Command Option
O F), but it didn't work.
Any more ideas?
The problem is that the finder screen takes up a space that's
Advice sought on a Mac book for an elderly beginner-level user.04 May 2008 09:17 GMT53
Hi there, I'm after a Mac for beginners book for an elderly family
member who has never learnt the basics - e.g. creating folders and
organising files, navigating the Finder and save/open dialogs.
They can browse the web (they bookmark, but every single bookmark is
OS X 10.4.11 saving WEP for wireless network04 May 2008 01:03 GMT3
My son-in-law recently changed his router and provided me with a new WEP
password.  I followed the instructions to click "Other", select the
password form and enter it.  This gets me on but the computer is not
remembering the password.  I have to re-enter it every time I log on.
Mail.app03 May 2008 22:25 GMT1
I am running OSX 10.5.2 and would like to use the Mail.app that comes
with it. Problem is to send any thing takes any where from 1 to 15 min.
Is there a switch or something that I have messed up on?
Thank you.
Macs and Anti Virus Software?03 May 2008 10:14 GMT135
I've received a proposal for the installation of a small network in my
office. It's 2 x macs and a dell server. They have recommended 3 x
Norton Anti Virus for Macintosh - is anti virus software necessary for
the macs? Thanks for any help.
I've never even seen a Kernel panic screen in Leopard03 May 2008 04:05 GMT21
It's never even managed ONCE. It never gets that far. It just freezes
instead.
This just happened and ruined two hours spent encoding a video (with
about 40 minutes to go) when I installed the widget below and clicked on
Weird one... (couldn't unlock from sleep)03 May 2008 01:58 GMT4
I hate it when there are irreproducible faults, although in this case I
guess it's better than a permanent serious one.  I went to wake up my
Powerbook G4 (running 10.4.something), which I have set to require a
password to wake from sleep.  I enter my password and it tells me ...
10.4.11 Sound Balance changes02 May 2008 22:20 GMT2
Obviously something is changing the Left/Right balance in Output in
Sound in System Preferences.  But it sure isn't me.  Anybody else see
this occurring? Using latest 10.4.11.  And its not always going to the
same position.  Usually only happens every few days.  Nothing to do ...
