Is there a possibility to change the switch-off behavior in osx?
iPod Classic Battery LIfe?13 May 2008 14:23 GMT6
I am just wondering what everyone's experiences with the iPod Classic
in terms of battery life when viewing video. The Apple website says it
is up to 5 hours and if that is the case it should allow me to watch
at least 2 movies while flying from SFO to HNL.
Weird problem13 May 2008 03:28 GMT7
Suddenly, today, out of nowhere something changed on my system and I
can't explain it.
I happen to use cURL extensively directly and in some applescripts that
I created.
iTunes check box purpose?13 May 2008 01:47 GMT4
I am not much of an iTunes user. In my main iTunes window, a check box
appears at the left hand side of the entries in the Name column If I
select Music files. Nothing much seems to change when I check or uncheck
that box. What is the purpose of that box? How do I find ...
outgoing Mail messages choose wrong server13 May 2008 00:50 GMT1
When I try to send an email it often chooses the wrong server, so I
have to reset it to my usual server, which is rather annoying. This
started happening after I changed some of my Mail preferences (it's a
long story) and I don't think I have reset them quite right. It often
Terminal command "periodic" of any value?12 May 2008 16:54 GMT3
Namely, if I  _never_  use periodic, will anything bad
happen, such as my belly-button falling out?
I read the man page for periodic, but as usual that does
not go into any detail as to what 'good' gets accomplished.

I'm using Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) on my MacBook, and again and again the smbol
for the Macintosh HD diappears from the desktop and the sidebar of the
Finder as well. I can only make it temporaray visible on the desktop again,
if I use Pathfinder. But still it's not visible on the ...
Using Mac mini with iMac display12 May 2008 10:52 GMT1
I have a 20" iMac, 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5, 1.5 GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.11.
For the first time I have a need to run a (standalone) Mac
application that requires an Intel processor.
I have spare keyboard and mouse available.
New Wireless Mighty Mouse overly sensitive?12 May 2008 02:43 GMT2
I'm a happy recipient of a new 24" iMac that I ordered with a wired
keyboard and wireless mouse. Lots of new stuff to play with, but
one thing giving me trouble is sensitivity of the laser in the
mouse.
Screen sharing only part of the screen12 May 2008 01:58 GMT2
I used to use Vine Server to VNC a 1280x1024 screen to my
work PC. Now I'm on Leopard with a 1920x1200 + 1600x1200
dual monitor setup and want to continue to have VNC access.
The entire desktop however, simply has too many pixels to be
sending DTMF tones to Skype11 May 2008 18:55 GMT10
Anyone know of an app or know how to write some AppleScript that will
allow me to send DTMF tones through Skype?  I'd like to automate
calling my cell voicemail (no problem), pause, and enter in my v-mail
password (problem).  I'm using Tiger.
Parallels disk image tough on Time Machine?11 May 2008 17:37 GMT9
I remember reading that an application like Outlook could be tough on Time
Machine because it uses one big data file that changes often, and so Time
Machine has to keep writing this entire file to the external disk (unlike
Mail.app that, I believe, keeps its data as individual ...
Interesting article from TidBits11 May 2008 17:10 GMT45
About the OS component called QuickTime.
Apple did more than merely patch a few (okay, 11) vulnerabilities with
the recent release of QuickTime 7.4.5. According to a report from eWeek
this update also included a series of improvements, for both Mac OS X

How to read personal email on Mac on PC at work10 May 2008 22:09 GMT15
I want to be able to read my personal email which I get in Apple Mail
app on my PC at work. Have been trying to either redirect it using a
rule in Mail or by configuring G'mail to do this. It's all got rather
complicated, but the harder I try the less luck I am having. At one
