So much advertising on this group lately...24 Apr 2008 17:59 GMT16
Of course, Mac Morons buy anything at any price but isn't it amazing how
many offers have appeared on this group recently for had bags, watches
and... ? They used to be more discreet.
MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.124 Apr 2008 05:02 GMT8
Is the MBP EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 only for those who applied version
1.5? When I run Software Update, it says there are no updates for my
computer (MacBook Pro, bought at Apple store 1.5 weeks ago). Nothing I
can see on the Apple site explains this. Does this mean that my MBP
Adding a recent apps stack to the dock does not work, Mac|Life.24 Apr 2008 04:46 GMT6
From the latest Mac|Life magazine:
use the following to add a recent apps stack to the dock:
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others-array-add '{ "tile-data"
= { "list-type" = 1; }; 'tile-type' = "recents-tile"; }'
Apple Mac OS X Security Recommendations24 Apr 2008 03:42 GMT65
Security threads in this group, including best practices with regard to
using separate non-administrator Mac OS X user accounts for day-to-day
tasks, often result in one or more persons questioning those best
practices. Personally, I'm growing tired of repeating myself, so...
Possible to delete tracks on Ipod?23 Apr 2008 22:15 GMT50
I was wondering if there was any Ipod or MP3 player that allows deletion
of tracks.  It would be great to download a pile of music and screen it
when you're out and about.  Then you transfer your "keepers" to your
music files later.  Doing it at the computer is often not ideal.  ...

IE 5 for Mac - downloadable?23 Apr 2008 12:18 GMT17
I know Micro$oft no longer supports IE 5 for Mac or has it available for
download from its website. But is there another software archive somewhere
that might have it available?
Thanks in advance for any info.
Problem getting Mac mini back from ubuntu23 Apr 2008 06:40 GMT31
Well, I decided to try ubuntu 7.10 out on my Mac mini, so I downloaded
and burned the 7.10 live CD.  figured that way I could test it live
without actually using up a drive or re-partitioning to install it.
It seemed easy at the time, I set the startup disk target in System
PowerBook 3400 boot problem23 Apr 2008 03:14 GMT7
My trusty ol' PB3400 is finally starting to act up.

An app as useless as an appendix?23 Apr 2008 02:58 GMT5
This is weird.  More on my wifi card saga.  (cut to the chase:
working fine now).  The software that comes with the card installs
four things: two kernel extensions (drivers), a user interface (what
you use to pick which net to join, configure various options, select
Forgetting to unmount drive before unplugging22 Apr 2008 23:47 GMT8
Last night I plugged in my Time Machine drive and let it get on with its
thing. A while later I heard the drive spin down and without thinking I
unplugged it. Of course a box popped up saying I should have unmounted
it first - doh! Anyway, I plugged it back in and it mounted fine ...
VLC22 Apr 2008 19:49 GMT8
Several of us with MacBooks of various vintages cannot get VLC or iDVD to
play Video_TS structures.  The menu appears, but clicking a chapter simply
aborts back to the play list.
Any advice appreciated.
Tivo to Macbook22 Apr 2008 17:15 GMT7
Hopefully someone has experience with this, I just ordered a Tivo unit
and am wondering what exactly I need to do to accomplish the goal of
taking what I record and putting it on my macbook. I want to do this
so I can then watch the video on my iPhone (use VisualHub). Thanks-
Album artwork in iTunes22 Apr 2008 16:09 GMT11
A couple of questions:
can you have different artwork for different tracks? i.e. if you liked
the Prodigy you might buy "Music For the Jilted Generation".
When I play the track 'No good start the dance' I want to see the

I know there is a preference to turn off play when importing from disc
