Problem with Printer Access From WXP PC09 Apr 2008 05:48 GMT1
I have an iMac (Leopard) with a Canon iP4300 printer with Ethernet
links through a router to a WXP PC.   I've lost the ability to print
on the Canon iP4300 on the iMac from the WXP PC.
I was able to print over the network before. I've run the various
Purging iTunes "memory" of Album Information09 Apr 2008 04:04 GMT3
I've noticed that once I load an album, iTunes sometimes gives me two or
even more choices as to what album I am loading.  Normally all three
album titles presented are similar enough that they could be correct,
however if I don't like the information loaded, I can't figure out ...
DSCL: "/" vs "."08 Apr 2008 22:20 GMT2
This is no doubt a naive question. I've recently
started using dscl. I've followed the examples on
the man page by putting "." in the datasource slot
(I think that's the right term). A couple of other

Leopard Time Machine08 Apr 2008 20:13 GMT91
Hey guys,
I just updated my macbook pro to leopard. I was wondering what your
thoughts on Time Machine are. Is it a good thing to use, or is it not
worth it? Thanks for your opinions!
Textedit's default new document layout08 Apr 2008 17:32 GMT20
So as per Michelle's and many other's recommendations I've been playing
with Textedit.  One huge improvement over Word 2008 is the lightning
speed.  Just a lot snappier.  A nice perk.  Everything is pretty good
except I can't seem to figure out how to control the default zoom, ...

Seeing Vista being run on a Mac (through virtualisation) is like     seeing your father in women's clothes: it's not right08 Apr 2008 07:39 GMT16
This was broadcast on a recent MacBreak Weekly podcast.
I wonder if it causes offense to men who like to wear dresses, high
heels and frilly knickers.
Just out of interest, when using Parallels or VM-Ware, the most stable
Cloning drives without a boot drive08 Apr 2008 03:45 GMT6
Can I, booting from install media, format and clone drives if I don't have
a system drive attached to my system at the time?
OK, now the details and reasons and set-up and all.
I have a G5 PowerMac.  This has space for two internal SATA drives.  One
Lose sound device - usually after running Windows in VMWare08 Apr 2008 02:46 GMT3
I use a USB Headset for sound, and my Mac Pro regularly loses the device.
It happens most often when I startup Windows in VMWare, once I activate
it under Windows I lose the device on the Mac, and never get it back.
Even after exiting from VMWare.  I can't even find the device in ...
FYI: Linux: a hacker's hobby?07 Apr 2008 22:37 GMT59
There seems to be quite a few misconceptions on this group as to what
Linux really is. So, since Mac users don't like to check their
prejudices against reality, here are a few quotes for your information.
"The kernel which forms the core of the Linux system is the result of

About the flash thumb-drive 'hack' for Apple TV that enables     xvid/divx playback07 Apr 2008 18:18 GMT2
Suppose you had a bunch of movies and sitcoms you had just got from
Bit Torrent.
Do you just drag the files into iTunes? Surely iTunes will just spit
and say it doesn't recognise the file format. How do you play back on
"Send to E-mail Recipient" option in OS X?07 Apr 2008 15:29 GMT17
I know Office has an option to send the current document via e-mail,
but is there some way to set this up in OS X (e.g., via Automator or
scripting)? When I locate a file (in the Finder) it would be so nice
to right/ctrl-click on it and have Mail open a new document with the
