I have a friend who persists in placing all his personal files on the
desktop.   I remember in the bad old days of Dos 3.1 there was a limit
to the number of files held in the root directory, and I wondered if
there was any similar restriction in the Mac OS.

...but I guess I'll get used to it.
Bought the new chrome Apple keyboard. Thin is in.
But I liked my "fat" keyboard better.

"The disk "xyz" is in use and could not be ejected.
"Try quitting applications and try again. [sic]"
But the disk, an external FW mirrored raid, is not in use, locally or
on the network. Only the Finder is running. Logging out doesn't help;

Printing with my Epson 7600 printer driver stopped suddenly.
The file to be printed would appear briefly in the 7600 printing window,
and then disappear.
Since then, I have repeatedly had trouble opening Printer Setup Utility

A highly touted by Apple and a much wanted feature by those of us who are
font freaks was the introduction of auto activation of fonts in Leopard.
Recent discussions in the Apple support forums indicate that there are those
of us who are not able to get it to work.

Is there a way using a shell script to tell if unix thinks the network
is up?  This is part of the saga about my wifi card -- I'd like to
trigger a script once the connection has been made (and while *I* can
see the green light on the card, the computer can't!)   It's clear
