| Kernel panics under 10.4.11 | 27 Mar 2008 07:52 GMT | 4 |
Since I updated from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 on my G4, I've been getting the occasional kernel panic - particularly when trying to wake the Mac up after a long sleep. Under 10.4.10 I never got any. Has anyone else noticed this?

| It's so nice to know people care | 27 Mar 2008 03:13 GMT | 22 |
My sincere thanks to everyone who has taken offense, become indignant, self-righteous, outraged and even just mildly upset at my recent posts. It's nice to know that you all think I'm important enough for you to take serious umbrage when I post something you don't like. <blush>

| Determining signal strength of wireless networks | 26 Mar 2008 23:27 GMT | 105 |
First, sorry about the crosspost, but I couldn't remember in which group I had seen this. Someone had asked how to scan wireless networks to see signal strength and whether the network was locked or not, and no one had a good answer, IIRC. It turns out that Leopard has a way to

| Time Machine on a multi-user Mac | 26 Mar 2008 19:08 GMT | 70 |
Yesterday, I finally got a 500GB disk hooked up to my Mac and started using TM with it. So far, it works pretty much as advertised. But there was a bit of a surprise for me. I discovered that TM only does backups while someone is logged in.

| Half were Mac - laptops on a plane. | 26 Mar 2008 18:01 GMT | 44 |
Totally nothing but an n of 1 observation: I had cause to fly a bunch recently. On the San Jose to Austin leg I had a greatly urgent need to hit the restroom. Being in coach I first went to the rear and nothing was available. I headed to the forward cabin. I thought I'd
