My Mac was bricked while trying to use Boot Camp to install Windows.
I'm wondering if there's any Windows software that can read the files
on my Time Machine external drive. I tried MacDrive; it doesn't work.
Anybody know of a way to copy files from the Time Machine drive to

Dead iMac Monitor04 Mar 2008 02:42 GMT10
I have a first generation 20" iMac G5 and the monitor has gone black.
It operates fine in target mode with my mini.  At least I can write to
and read the hard drive partitions.  I think the logic board is good.  A
new inverter didn't help.  I was told that there are five fluorescent
hp 5L laserjet04 Mar 2008 01:50 GMT3
I just got a free hp 5L laserjet printer.  I have an iMac, OS 10.4.11.
I know I can get a USB-parallel cable for about $13.  Can I get a driver
that will work, and is it worth it?  I just need a reliable printer to
print out non-demanding documents.

Can the Apple remote control volume and next/previous track in VLC,
iTunes, Real Player, Quicktime Pro, etc?  If not, is there another
remote with a receiver that can (plugged in to USB I guess)?

Sound output via built-in speaker or via stereo jacks03 Mar 2008 23:31 GMT3
Last century, I had a Power Centre macintosh which, if I recall, came
with MacOs 7.1 (circa 1996).
In this mac, there was a Sound control panel which let me force the
sound out of the built-in speaker even if there was something plugged

I have an ancient iMac DV (450mhz) running IS X 10.4.11.  It has one of
those pre Mighty Mouse graphite colored optical mice on it and the
tracking is very jittery and jumpy; so much so that it is often
difficult to select a specific word, line, or sometimes even dialog

Ah the good old days. I used to be able to see a picture of a keyboard

of keys and control keys to see what would display. Now when I try to

Wanted--Disappearing Menu Bar When Finder Is Active Application03 Mar 2008 14:27 GMT45
I would like Finder to have the same behavior in regards to the menu bar as
does DVD Player when in full screen mode. That is, the menu bar appears based
upon the position of the cursor, sliding down from the top in a manner
similar to how the dock can be configured to slide up ...

Does anybody know the meaning of the  '@' sign that appears in file

the PC and now want to use the Unison File Synchronizer to sync my

I was running the latest Tiger Mac OS, and had 3 Users on the machine.
A few days ago, I had only two users. But, yesterday, I used Migration
Assistant to move over an additional user. So, I had 3 working users on
