I have a number of HI-8 tapes I made many moons ago. I would like to convert them to digital so I can make DVDs of them. The output of the camcorder is S-video and analog audio. I'm looking for a gadget I can connect to my Mac via USB. My searches on Google have not

| G3 iPod has stopped working | 23 Feb 2008 14:37 GMT | 13 |
This may not be the right forum this question but the the apple support site has not been helpful and I've gotten useful information from here in the past. My G3 iPod has worked for me reliably for the past several years.

| iTunes 7.6.1 update - still broken | 23 Feb 2008 05:15 GMT | 6 |
The iTunes update is a waste of time. iTunes 7.6.1 still regularly beachballs to scan your library. It still plays only low resolution movie rentals. I'm starting to suspect that the iTunes development team was replaced with a room full of screaming monkeys a couple of years ...

| MPG in OS X | 23 Feb 2008 00:48 GMT | 6 |
I imported pictures and MPG's into Iphoto, but when I click on a movie, it opens Quick Time, but does not play the movie. I also have VLC player on my system, but do not understand how to associate mpg and other movie formats to it, so that when I click on a movie <avi, mpg, wmv> it ...

| Terrible Mac Pro speaker. | 22 Feb 2008 22:52 GMT | 8 |
I do not expect great sound quality to come out of the built-in speaker in my relatively new Macintosh Pro. Compared to what came from my G4's built-in speaker, the Pro sound is absolutely dreadful. It sounds as if there is a mid-frequency resonance that completely

| floppy drive sound | 22 Feb 2008 22:38 GMT | 2 |
It has been years since I've inserted a floppy disk, but the sound of writing (and I think reading) is unforgettable. It's like the sound that says there's a ring signal after you dial somebody's phone number. I don't know whether to call it a buzzing, a chattering, or a

| Does Mac have System restore points | 22 Feb 2008 17:03 GMT | 14 |
On PCs if some really bad crap happens one final resort is to revert to a system restore point, like going back in time. Is there any equivalent with Mac OS 10.4.x? I seem to have somehow lost all my iPhoto library and haven't a clue. A Spotlight search turned up no

| hp Laserjet 5L | 22 Feb 2008 16:46 GMT | 1 |
I just inherited an hp Laserjet 5L, which has a parallel cable. I want to run it from my iMac, OS 10.4.11. I can buy a parallel-to-USB adaptor cable for about $13. Is this printer worth the effort (and the $13!)? I just need it for presentable document printing, no high-end ...

| Security Update 2008-001 and permissions | 22 Feb 2008 08:00 GMT | 4 |
I recently applied Security Update 2008-001 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 to eight different installations, some PPC and some Intel, and upon repairing permissions with Disk Utility, read the following: "Permissions differ on ./Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Shockwave
