I screwed up!25 Feb 2008 01:45 GMT2
Mac OS 10.5 MacBookPro
Okay, let's face it...I screwed up big time. Back in 10.4 (Tiger) days I
was downloading an update (I don't remember which) and in my impatience
began another task on my Mac whilst the download and update progressed.
What The Hell Is Going On24 Feb 2008 23:50 GMT4
This evening I opened this newsgroup and I found that all of the
messages listed were the 'M1-5 Persecution' spam. lately I've been
finding that this is happening to all the ngs that I'm subscribed to. At
first I tried to set kill filters for the spam in a number of groups,
Increasing Bootcamp partition24 Feb 2008 22:11 GMT4
A long time ago, I created a 30 gig partition (FAT format) for Windows
XP using Bootcamp beta (OS Tiger).
The partition is now almost full. MSFSX sucked up almost half of it.
Is there any way of expanding this partition ?

Printing a highlighted portion of text24 Feb 2008 20:35 GMT6
A friend of mine just switched from Windows to a Mac laptop running
10.5.  In Explorer he said is used to being able to highlight a
portion of text, right clicking, and then printing only the
highlighted portion.  Is anything like that possible with OS10 running
OS9.2 drivers for a DX4400 printer24 Feb 2008 15:49 GMT1
I have bought a DX4400 Epson printer to replace a D88 which was
playing up. The D88 came with drivers for OS9.2 as well as MacOSX and
Windows XP but after unpacking and trying to set up the DX4400 I find
OS9.2 isn't supported. Does anyone know where I might find any third-
Power quality utility?24 Feb 2008 15:47 GMT38
Is there any software program that can measure any power
characteristics?  I'm suspecting my power company is not supplying very
good electricity.  Or do I have to use hardware to measure the voltage
deviations over time?
Adding Nested Menu Commands to the Keyboard Pref Plane24 Feb 2008 07:00 GMT6
In the Keyboard & Mouse preference pane, you can add shortcuts (either
globally or to specific applications).
In Photoshop there is a menu option for Edit > Transform > Distort.
How can I add this as a keyboard shortcut?  I can add "first tier"
duplicate songs in playlist with different START/END times24 Feb 2008 02:50 GMT2
I want to create duplicates in a playlist but I want each of the two
duplicates to have different INFO.
I want the first occurrence of the song to have START 0:00 END 2:00,
and the second occurrence of the song in the playlist to have START
Transferring CDs to HD24 Feb 2008 01:34 GMT2
I have a MacBook Pro with a built-in CD/DVD burner.  I am trying to find
out, if I transfer a CD to my hard disk, does it go straight out as a
bit stream or does it go through an D/A->A/D conversion?  Ditto when I
burn a CD from HD.
DVD burner problem23 Feb 2008 21:49 GMT1
I have a Plextor external FW/USB dual layer DVD tray type burner.  It
exists in  a fairly dusty place and it used to work perfectly.  I didn't
use it for about four months and now it will only play commercial audio
CD's and won't write anything.  It will not read commercial DVD's.  ...
Help please23 Feb 2008 21:48 GMT2
I've been trying to replace the batteries on my eMac.
The Support in Apple page is very clear but I simply can't find  the
suitable Phillips screwdriver
to remove the screw on the memory access panel.
playing mpg, avi, etc.23 Feb 2008 17:08 GMT2
I have an iMac, OS10.4.11, and use Newswatcher for newsgroups.  When I
download a movie in multipart form, I can (usually) play the first part
using VLC, but subsequent parts won't play.  I get messages such as
"seeking too far," "(file) is empty, aborting
