Mac Leopard becoming extremely slow when RAM begin to swap with     harddrive02 Feb 2008 17:32 GMT34
So much as I like Mac, how come Leopard on a new Macbook with 1GB RAM
can become extremely slow when Firefox together with Safari start to
hog 200MB and 300MB respectively and the RAM seems to start to swap to
hard drive... first, isn't it 1GB RAM, so swapping should start around
Prebinding - should it be updating at login daily?02 Feb 2008 17:24 GMT17
I've tracked down the slowdown on my 10.2.8 iMac. Update_Prebind runs
after starting the computer and after the Finder and dock are already
functional. It's taking 9-15% of the CPU. Does that sound right? Any
idea how to correct this?
Assigning printers to applications?02 Feb 2008 17:05 GMT17
Is it possible to make, say, Word print only to an Epson R300 and
Photoshop print only to an Epson 3800, under OS 10.5.1?
And whatever happened to desktop printers- was that OS 8, 9, or what?
mini dvds in iMac02 Feb 2008 15:14 GMT1
A coworker who has an Intel iMac told me that she puts mini dvd disks
in her slot loading superdrive and they work fine. I was always told
that the mini dvds will be stuck in the mechanism and cannot be taken
out easily. Can anyone verify this for me?
Suitable Slideshow Program?02 Feb 2008 08:35 GMT6
I am looking for some slideshow program with the following requirements
(free or commercial doesn't matter):
- one may specify a folder where the pictures reside (local or remote folder)
- automatic update of the show if the folder contents changes. This update
Terminal Help Urgently Needed02 Feb 2008 04:34 GMT24
I installed some Beta Garmin software on my MacBook Pro. It copied and
converted Garmin maps to a format that could be read on the Mac. I
don't recall the amount of disk space available before the conversion,
but the drive wasn't nearly full. At the end of the Garmin conversion
Reloading OSX/wiping HDD on Bootcamped Macbook02 Feb 2008 04:10 GMT3
My wife has a Macbook she has been using for work for about 2 years. It has
been running OSX & XP Pro via Bootcamp. She used both OS's for email, Word,
Internet, etc. The hdd is allotted about half to XP & half to OSX. She has
been issued a new computer, & would like to return ...
Treo WiFi to Bluetooth Bridge?02 Feb 2008 02:34 GMT6
This might be a bit of a long shot, but I have heard rumors of this sort
of thing existing, so perhaps it actually does!
I have a 17-inch G4 PowerBook and a Palm Treo650.  Do any of you know of
software that can bridge WiFi Internet (AT&T, if it matters) to
SWITCHING to INTEL from PowerPC - HOW TO?02 Feb 2008 02:05 GMT3
SWITCHING to INTEL from PowerPC - HOW TO?
Okay, I have PowerPC 1GHz G4s (iMac and Powerbook) that I run from an
external hard drive and OS, so I may keep everything portable and only
need to carry the external HD with me, and nothing is trapped on the
Web cam selection for a Mac?01 Feb 2008 23:19 GMT7
What web brand cams can I use on a Mac? I am running OS 10.3 on a blue
& white tower. Is there only one option apple's Isight cam. I have a
creative brand USB cam I use on a PC. If I were to hook it to the Mac
to see if it would work is there a possibility that I could do damage
Time Machine questions01 Feb 2008 22:55 GMT14
Does Time Machine back up every file on the disk, even things like
operating system files that could be restored from the install disk?
If my hard disk were to crash, could the computer somehow restore the
entire system from the external disk onto a new hard drive or would
Giving Up on Leopard01 Feb 2008 22:20 GMT975
I've given up on Leopard on my Dual G5 w. 4GB/2x250 GB/30" Cinema
Display.
When a fresh install on a brand-new (but tested) HD with NO third-party
anything -- not even ONE third-party app or extension added -- crashes
Fixed: Was "Terminal Help Urgently Needed"01 Feb 2008 21:53 GMT1
The folder ".Spotlight-V100" at the root level /had/ a size of 44 GB. I
believe that this file is typically some few 10s of MB.
No, I don't know how I missed that several times while staring at the
root level index. I have no idea whether this was related to the Garmin
G4 TiBook wrecked by 10.4.11 updater?01 Feb 2008 21:23 GMT10
Probably not wrecked but I can't figure out what to do. I had been
happily running Os 10.4.9 on this machine and made the mistake of
accepting Software Update's invitation to move up to 10.4.11 and
Quicktime 7.3. The software duly came down and the background
Permissions differ on Š01 Feb 2008 20:42 GMT2
I installed Leopard shortly after it was released. In the last several
weeks I have noticed a recurring message when I run Disk Utility
Verify/Repair Disk Permissions.
Repair Disk Permissions will get rid of the message pasted below, but it
