iSight kaput, advice needed12 Feb 2008 17:26 GMT8
My old iSight is no longer working properly. I went to the store for a
new webcam but none of them seem to be Mac compatible. Anyone have any
luck with third party webcams on a Mac? I'm running a G5 2 gig under
10.4.9.
Unexpected Access Control Lists in OS X 10.5.212 Feb 2008 17:15 GMT1
When I undertake a "Repair Permissions" via Disk Utility I get the following:
====================
Repairing permissions for ³Cowboy²
ACL found but not expected on "Applications/Utilities".
Wine?12 Feb 2008 14:49 GMT7
Did anything ever come of Wine on Mac OS X?
I've found a few references to Crossover Office, but the price is more
than I want to pay for being able to expand Win32 self-expanding
archives.
Date and Time Strangeness?12 Feb 2008 14:26 GMT2
I have 2 Macs here - a laptop and a desktop.  On both I have Date & Time
open in the System Preferences. Both have the checkbox checked for "Set
date & time automatically." I have reselected the time server on each
one several times - Apple Americas, Apple Europe, etc.
configuring /usr/bin/mail12 Feb 2008 13:44 GMT4
Is there a "dummies" guide for configuring /usr/bin/mail
for a Leopard system behind a DSL broadband router? e.g.
after configuring sendmail, do I have to poke a hole
for port 25 in the router, and... or...
What happened to OS 9.2? How can I restore OS 9.2 capability?12 Feb 2008 12:31 GMT5
Recently I did a fresh install and upgraded to OS X.4.11 on my iMac G4
PPC.
When I did, the capability to run OS 9 applications disappeared. I
still have an OS9 system folder.
Security updates 001-2008?12 Feb 2008 11:11 GMT4
I have a question on Security update 001-2008. Is it just for TIger, or
is it for both Tiger and Leopard? The Apple website says "OS 10.4.11 or
greater". WHen I run Software Update, I don't get any message saying I
need to download anything else.
10.5.2 installation failure--be careful12 Feb 2008 10:35 GMT3
My 10.5.2 update failed, with a message that I should contact the
vendor.  First generation Intel-based iMac, no funny third party
things installed (other than a Canon scanner driver, I suppose).
This left the Finder hosed. It tries to launch, but dies. This leaves
How to know the original location of the contents of the Trash Folder?12 Feb 2008 09:06 GMT3
Dear friends:
How to know the original location of the contents of the Trash Folder?
I check the contents of my Trash Folder about twice a week, and
sometimes, I want to restore some of it to their original folder, but
cleaning Mac Mini12 Feb 2008 06:47 GMT18
I have a Mini PPC.  When my internal drive was my startup, I got a
reading for the drive temperature.  Now I get no readings.
I've read that some people have experienced frequent shutdowns after
extended periods of high CPU utilization, and the solution has been to
Updating Boot Caches -- What's This?12 Feb 2008 06:16 GMT12
Recently, after I've opted to shutdown my computer I'll get a message that
says "Updating Boot Caches". I then click on the one button available in the
dialog box and the screen then turns blue with no spinner. I've waited as
long as ten minutes and nothing appears on the screen ...
Parental Controls in Leopard12 Feb 2008 05:47 GMT13
OK, so I enabled the parental controls on my kid's account.  He
sometimes uses my machine to play WoW.
I live the ability to set both a maximum # hours and a bedtime in them,
and I though the Webstie restrictions setting sounded cool, so I enabled
Is there a way to make the backup faster?12 Feb 2008 05:21 GMT13
Because of the Time Machine taking so much time just to prepare
backup, i haven't been able to backup my computer recently. Is there a
way to shorten the time?
Vanishing email12 Feb 2008 05:17 GMT19
Using 10.4.11 Mail.  Often when I review older email (months old) I get
this message in italics:
"The message from Me <me@email.com> concerning ³Subject line of message²
has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account
