buying a macbook question26 Dec 2007 13:38 GMT5
I am starting to investigate buying a new MacBook.  I went to the apple
site.  The black, highest price model is $200 more than the white mid
price model, and the only different spec I could find is that the HD is
a little larger.  Is black really that beautiful, or am I missing

At shutdown all programs quit,  desktop clears off like it shoud, and

Different Images on Different Desktops?26 Dec 2007 10:21 GMT3
Dear Everyone:
I use the Desktop Manager Versioin 0.5.3 for my  Power Mac G5 machine,
and I set up four (4) desktops for myself to use.
I have a number of JPEG images to use for the background  of the
AirPort only works right next to the wireless router --  help!26 Dec 2007 08:52 GMT4
I had the entire lid/screen of my G4 iBook replaced recently, and I'm
just now firing up this computer. I discover that the AirPort only
picks up a wireless signal if I'm a few feet from the source -- won't
even pick it up in the next room. Why would this be?
sharing an external hard drive -- how?26 Dec 2007 05:42 GMT33
My MacBook has a USB-attached hard drive. I want to allow other Macs on
the LAN to access it for read only, *as guest* -- that is, no password
required.
I cannot figure out how to do that. For everything I've tried (lots of
My headache, permissions and Migration Assistant26 Dec 2007 04:44 GMT5
The last couple of days have been rather irritating as far as my 'old
faithful' <cough> MDD G4 PowerMac goes.  After experiencing numerous
kernel panics after running the latest Security Update/s (including the
1.1 version) I decided to do a clean install of Leopard on my hard ...
Post Security Update Oddities26 Dec 2007 04:15 GMT1
Incredibly, my husband's G4 iBook is showing a very major improvement in
both audio and video.  This happened immediately post security update
1.1.  I honestly can't recall *any* time his iBook had such good color
or volume.  If, say, the audio output was 6 before, it is now a ...
AddressBook and XFN26 Dec 2007 02:25 GMT1
"XFN is a lightweight method of annotating links to indicate a
personal relationship with the person responsible for the linked
resource, and as such strengthens existing links in a manner that
is both machine-readable and human-comprehensible."
Pulling out my hair with Xserve g5 dual 2.3 GHz, 2 Gigs RAM.25 Dec 2007 20:32 GMT6
Bought one of ebay (the cluster unit with 1 removable HD). Came with a
10 user license of 10.5 server. Connected via an airport base station
extreme (the "n" type).
I have been at it for 2 days now. Can't ssh, can't use ARD 3.2 and can't
Spooky TM drive access25 Dec 2007 19:43 GMT2
My new LaCie d2 Quadra 500GB external firewire drive has just been set
up as a Time Machine volume. I allowed TM to run once and then turned
it off (since I don't want hourly backups), having noted that the LaCie
drive made a very distinctive low-pitched rumbling noise when data ...
Pulsating Windows25 Dec 2007 19:40 GMT16
I have just purchased an iMac equipped with Leopard. Occasionally all
the open windows start pulsating (shrinking and enlarging). I find
this very annoying. Any clues as to what is causing this and, more
importantly, how I can stop it?
Leopard install in G425 Dec 2007 15:45 GMT5
I'm unfamiliar with PowerPC Macs.
My daughter-in-law has a Mac with this configuration:

DVD-RAM25 Dec 2007 13:08 GMT6
I just went to Circut City and asked two different salesmen if the blank
DVD-Ram disks would work on my Mac.  Both of them said: YES.
When I got home the media only mounted on one of my computers, a G-5 running
OS 10.4.11 and the disk is read only.  I can't use it.  Is there some ...
