| Hard drive error? Help! | 03 Dec 2007 23:00 GMT | 6 |
When I restart my computer, the desktop that I see appears to be a factory install of OSX. I don't know what happened! The icon bar was reverted to typical icons (garageband, itunes, iweb etc) as well as the desktop being switched to the traditional apple blue screen.

| Formatting Video Made from Quicktime Video Screen Captures, for YouTube? | 03 Dec 2007 21:18 GMT | 1 |
I have not yet found a way to upload video made from Quicktime video screen captures (e.g. to demonstrate software) to YouTube, without unacceptable smearing and blurriness resulting from the YouTube resampling that is done when they convert the video to Flash.

| Erasing a Hard Drive | 03 Dec 2007 18:56 GMT | 5 |
I've replaced a pair of external FW drives with a terabyte mirrored RAID. Now I'm going to erase those drives for use elsewhere. Does it matter -- reliability wise -- how I erase, i.e., does it matter whether I zero-out the drives. Security is not a consideration here.

| Leopard Gripe: Aliases | 03 Dec 2007 18:53 GMT | 91 |
I use aliases. A lot. When I was running Tiger, an alias took up 4kb of space. On Leopard, when I create a new alias, they take up 508kb of space, though old aliases continue to work and remain 4kb.

| Favorite unballyhooed Leopard features | 03 Dec 2007 18:51 GMT | 2 |
Okay, by now we've all been through the PR stuff that drones on about Time Machine, Spaces, Stacks, and the like -- the highly visible new Leopard features. But Apple talks about "300 new features" without enumerating them.

| LaunchOnce | 03 Dec 2007 04:38 GMT | 4 |
I have a file named "LaunchOnce" in my startup items, but I have no recollection of what it is supposed to do or when I put it there. I can't find it on my disk, and ~/library/startupitems folder is empty (which makes me wonder where all the startup items live).
