Error Burning Folder to DVD11 Dec 2007 03:55 GMT1
Power Mac G4, mirror front, 2 gigs RAM, OS X 10.5.1.
I want to back up a folder to a DVD. I insert a blank DVD-R, it
appears in the finder, and I drag the folder over the DVD icon. When
that operation finishes, I drag the DVD icon to the trash (now the
My web browsers are now all trying to download/display things like .do and .rss files11 Dec 2007 02:39 GMT3
instead of handling them correctly. It is system wide in every web
browser under 10.5.1. Safari, Camino, whatever.
Is my system f.cked? I just can't take Leopard any more... this suddenly
started happening a couple days ago.
Lacie drive haggling on London's Tottenham Court Road11 Dec 2007 02:39 GMT1
So I was in Landun-mate the other day to get some new HDDs.
Microanvika was shut so I popped into Ask Electronics. It's a big
motherf..king store almost opp Sainsbury's on Tottenham Court Road.
Their drives were like £20 higher. I showed them a print out of
Identifying And Deleting Unneeded Kernel Extensions11 Dec 2007 02:25 GMT11
I want to identify all unneeded/outdated kernel extensions in my system
and delete them.  Has anyone seen a list of kexts that are not
compatible with 10.4?  Has anyone used a utility that will scan all of
the kexts in my system and provide a list of them for deletion?
Leopard stacks, open subdirectories?11 Dec 2007 01:56 GMT9
I only just got a new computer with Leopard, so I'm a bit behind
everyone else...although I admit I've followed the hype for the last
year or so.  At any rate, stacks bug me.  Yes, I'm aware they bug lots
of people.  Besides looking ugly in the dock, I have a more goal-
File Vault11 Dec 2007 01:48 GMT9
I have my MBP that is 99% of the time on my desk in my office. I am
thinking about using File Vault to secure the back-ups to the external
HD. I would initiate FV, do the back-up and then terminate FV. Probably
do the same thing to the home directory the 1% I take it off site.

I love his podcasts. He really goes in depth - I enjoy each and every
ISP Problems11 Dec 2007 01:01 GMT8
It seems that smaller local ISPs are going the way of the bulletin
boards, out of business. Spam, etc, seems to be doing them in. My local
Mac dedicated ISP reports trapping on average 200,000 spam emails per
eight hours. My own ISP has gone and sold their email services off to
Leopard on a PowerBook G4/667 ?11 Dec 2007 00:14 GMT16
Officially, Leopard requires at least a PowerBook G4/867 MHz.
I have a PowerBook G4/667 (Gigabit Ethernet) with 1GB RAM and a
100GB/7200rpm drive.
Will this machine support Leopard, although slowly for intensive tasks,
Help with imac G3 which won't boot please10 Dec 2007 19:27 GMT5
I'm new to macs and have just inherited an imac G3 (model M5521) which
I'd like to get working, just to see how I get on before investing any
money in to the format.
I know the system was operational as I have seen it working
Mapping Joystick Buttons to Keys in OS X?10 Dec 2007 19:13 GMT2
I picked up a basic Logitech PS2-style USB controller and I have a
game (Chopper) that does not allow controls to be mapped (not even to
other keys, much less a joystick).  Are there any applications out
there that will allow me to map my USB joystick to keys in OS X
Any way to get Software Update to run in the background at a specified time of the day?10 Dec 2007 17:16 GMT29
Is there any way to get Software Update to run in the background at a
specified time of the day? I don't want to be bothered with any
notifications unless there actually are updates to download, i.e. as it
does when set to check automatically, but I want to control the time of
AOL Mail problem under Leopard10 Dec 2007 17:11 GMT48
Installed OS 10.5, ran AOL, can't open mail messages.
I see a list of messages, and when double-clicked, the red check appears
indicating the message has been read.  But the message never opens.
Saved-Mail messages won't open either.

MacPro lemon: 2 repairs w/o success - how to get replacement?10 Dec 2007 13:01 GMT9
I seem to have got a lemon of a MacPro:
I have it had for almost a year now, and it never functioned properly.
It seems to have some kind of a bus error, ie data does not get
transported reliably. If I install a fresh copy of Mac OS X 10.5 (and
