I am thinking about using a mac mini OSX as a cheap and nice and user- friendly front end for a number of fast and cheap linux machines. I guess that one can mount the linux drives via nfs (if need be, use X), and then replace all sorts of command line applications (e.g., like

| HELP! Upgrade to OSX 10.4.11 gone terribly wrong | 27 Nov 2007 21:11 GMT | 2 |
My MacBook ran fine using 10.4.10, no problems. Then I used Software Update to download and install new software, including the update to 10.4.11, iTunes 7.5, new iDVD, and one other item, can't remember. I left and when I came back, the screen just showed an empty desktop, and I ...

| Audio questions | 27 Nov 2007 21:05 GMT | 4 |
I'm a little confused as I'm sure a lot of people are regarding the digital to analogue conversion that we use to hear anything from our computers. The Mac Pro and other high end computers use a Toslink output to presumably ensure that analogue distortions don't enter into

My step-dad has a iBook 500mhz Dual USB laptop. I gave it to him a few years back when I upgraded to a Powerbook. I just seemed to run out of space on the hard drive for stuff and and wanted a unit that was a little faster with a larger screen. In any event he now running out of

| Deleting a File from Time Machine | 27 Nov 2007 16:56 GMT | 19 |
It appears that there is no way to delete an individual file from Time Machine backups. I had a file listing all of my passwords on my desktop while I was updating it. When finished, I moved it back to a 3.5 floppy where I

Is there a way to turn off the animated Time Machine background? Time Machine thinks it can pull off the animation on my Core Solo Mac mini. It's very, very wrong. :)

| Macbook Pro to Macbook conversion | 27 Nov 2007 12:20 GMT | 4 |
The hard drive in my MPB recently bit the dust. I was lucky enough to have backed up everything to my external hard drive (Western Digital USB 250GB) using SuperDuper! I discovered that when holding the 'C' key you can boot directly from the external, despite having heard it

| MAc friendly PCI board wanted | 27 Nov 2007 02:47 GMT | 7 |
After getting Leopard, I have installed a PCI USB 2.0 card (I think it's a Belkin card) in my G4 PowerMac (as it had only USB 1.1) and put on it an ext. USB drive for Time Machine. Unfortunately, when the PM falls asleep, it loses sight of the drive and I get "device you removed ...
