MacBook keyboard trouble14 Nov 2007 05:04 GMT2
Hi, I am a newcomer here. My son presented me with his MacBook since I
needed a laptop computer. However, up to now I have been using PCs only,
therefore he installed Windows XP on my new machine.
Initially the desktop looked sharp and bright, but some days later, the
Installing Leopard14 Nov 2007 03:14 GMT3
I did an erase and install of Panther, saving my settings, on my G4
iBook with the latest Tiger on it. Since Panther, I get a lot of Finder
freezes and many other problems requiring power button shutdowns. I now
want to erase my hard drive and do a clean installation of Panther ...
What is a reasonable download speed for DSL14 Nov 2007 01:59 GMT21
On a good day, if I download a larger file on my DSL in Safari, it will
read 45-50 kB/sec.  But I usually get a message on many news blog sites
for short video clips that my download speed is too low to have a
intelligble interaction.  Many of these sites seem to use Adobe Flash v.
Leopard Translucent Menus are Insanely Distracting and Hard to Read14 Nov 2007 01:30 GMT100
I've just gotten Leopard and am excited about a lot of its new features.
But those translucent menus are insanely hard to read. There's often
text behind the menus, getting mixed up with the text on the menus! That
has got to go.

I just went through Mail.app and did some spring cleaning, deleting
messages, folders etc... and I notice now that the Trash icon in the
Mailboxes column is gone.

Disk saved13 Nov 2007 22:36 GMT1
After I installed Leopard I got a warning that a volume on my second
internal disk couldn't be repaired and was made available with "limited
functionality" (so I could copy the files).
Indeed on Panther and Tiger I was unable to mount the disk using Disk Utility.
Wireless to Ethernet Printing13 Nov 2007 19:57 GMT2
I have spent the last few hours trying to source an answer to the
following. First of all the setup:
- D Link Wireless Router
- Quicksilver G4 (Tiger) connected via ethernet to the router

Time Machine question13 Nov 2007 17:56 GMT7
Given this:  I open a window in the Finder and click Time Machine on the
Dock.  Time Machine activates, displaying the infinite windows against
the galaxy display, along with a forward and back arrow.
I click the back arrow, and Time Machine displays the previous version
My Leopard impressions....13 Nov 2007 17:07 GMT7
Right, now I have got the crap joke out of the way can anybody tell me
if in Front Row in Leopard there is a way to stop the album art
flipping back and fro all the time, it is REALLY annoying!
My true Leopard impressions though, I've been using it for over a week
Want a voice recorder13 Nov 2007 11:54 GMT16
My daughter saw a student using a voice recorder in class on a macbook that
also brought up a sheet of looseleaf on the screen to take notes during the
lecture.
Nothing like that on version tracker.
Lepoard upgrade13 Nov 2007 08:02 GMT7
I upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.5 over the weekend. All went smoothly,
but not without annoyances. I expected the garish UI changes, which
aren't exactly to my taste. The main things that were annoying were that
NetInfo has gone, so I had to edit my /et/hosts file (perhaps there are
MacPro/10.5 - how to erase several disks in parallel?13 Nov 2007 07:25 GMT5
My MacPro goes to service because of recurring directory damage. I
suspect either the Seagate 750 GB hard disks's firmware, or a bus error
on the logic board.
Anyway: I want to clear the four 750 GB Seagates of my data.
