.mac questions20 Nov 2007 20:55 GMT1
My wife has had an iMac since last Christmas - I will have my first
Mac this Christmas.
She bought .mac and we use it to back up her changed documents. About
once a month I am able to get to her computer and have the .mac backup
How to de-alias aliases when copying20 Nov 2007 18:27 GMT8
I have a folder full of aliases to files on my hard disk. I want to copy
this folder to a USB drive (or whatever), but replace the aliases with the
files they point to, as they won't be much use on somebody else's machine.
Is there an easy way to do that?
No trash sounds20 Nov 2007 14:59 GMT3
I haven't had any trash sounds since 10.5.0.  No sounds when adding an item
to the trash or emptying it.  This is only affecting one of my user
accounts.  Trash sounds work in all others.
System Preferences -> Sound -> Play user interface sound effects is checked.
How to destroy Leopard/Vista/Dragon, all at one fell swoop20 Nov 2007 14:19 GMT159
Why destroy Leopard?
To test your backup, of course.
I have been dumping stuff into Leopard for a few days now.
Runs great.  Have it loaded with:

Am I just blind, or is there really no menu item in Finder, where I
can change the name of file?

Printing - what I see is not what I get20 Nov 2007 12:59 GMT2
I'm printing from Word and have noticed time and again that what I see
on the Print Preview under File is most definitely not what is printed
in terms of layout (margins are different) and font size which is far
bigger when printed.  What am I doing wrong?  Using Word 2004 ...

I've got a Maxtor OneTouch drive that won't continue to power up. My
data is there. It's possible to take a parallel ATA out of the
OneTouch. Will that fit into my G4? TIA -Dave
Leopard Permissions Warnings20 Nov 2007 08:41 GMT3
On a recent permissions repair, I got all of these warning messages.
Are they all part of the same bug in Disk Utility, or is there more
for me to be concerned about?
Thanks!
Spaces Weirdness20 Nov 2007 07:26 GMT13
I'm using Spaces, and kind of relying on the fact that Leopard switches
in the right space when an application gets focus.  Only sometimes it
stops doing that.  Logging out and back in fixes it for a while, but
then it will start doing it again.  I haven't been able to figure out ...
How to clear items20 Nov 2007 06:45 GMT96
I am a new mac owner, and I can't seem to figure out how to clear up
some items. My niece is going to spend some time at our house, and I
don't want permanent records of where she surfs on my computer.
I have email addresses that auto load and everything that has ever
Time Machine via networked firewire20 Nov 2007 06:20 GMT4
I think I must be missing something. I have a machine running Leopard
with a directly-attached firewire HD. It's set up to use Time Machine on
that drive (and that's all it's used for).
My impression was, that I could backup other Macs that are on the same
A Mac for Christmas20 Nov 2007 05:30 GMT16
I've been saving up my allowance since I got my wife a 24" iMac for
Christmas last year.   My savings went up slowly during golf season,
but my wife is talking about paying for much of it for my Christmas
present this year.    I may be about $500 short, which means I won't
How about Leopard on a G4 iBook? ...20 Nov 2007 04:30 GMT7
I have a 2.5 year old G4 iBook, I think 1.2 Ghz., with 1.25 GB of RAM.
I have Tiger on it now, will it handle Leopard?
Thanks in advance!

new MacBooks' graphics doesn't work under Tiger20 Nov 2007 01:55 GMT1
From an Apple representative, I received the following comment about
the new MacBooks as of Nov 1, 2007:
There is a new video chipset in the new Macbooks and there is no Tiger
driver for it.  If you install Tiger the MacBook will not run (or
