I'm ramping up to finally upgrade my ancient Ti PB
to a desktop.
I'm probably going to spec the ATI Radeon graphics card.
Does anyone have a non-Apple LCD display that they're
iBook G4 spontaneously cleaned its own drive04 Sep 2007 23:36 GMT8
I have a problem with my iBook G4, and while the damage is done and
I'm back up & working again, I'd like to know what went wrong so I can
prevent the issue happening again.
Two nights ago, I was working in bed on the iBook, finalising some
OSX and the HP Color Inkjet 2800dtn04 Sep 2007 22:32 GMT4
We have had an HP Color Inkjet 2800 for about two years and it has
been a big headache.   Before saying anything more, I should state
that I have been a Mac user for 20 years and only use Windows when
supporting other users.  That said, what's really strange about the
Can now _write_ to a Vista NTFS from a Mac - whoopie04 Sep 2007 22:02 GMT15
Below is some of the Winders crap I had to go through in order to
"write" files to a Vista partition that was using the NTFS (file system)
...write from a Mac, that is.

Heating Issues MacBook Pro 17" ?04 Sep 2007 20:31 GMT1
My Laptop is getting realy hot when playing World of WarCraft.
I checked the firmware version and its seems up to date.  (1.18f2)
Is there any chance of damage to the system due to overheating?
The hard drive is also a 7200 RPM which probably runs hot too.
Leopard04 Sep 2007 19:57 GMT7
Does anyone out there know when Lepoard will come out pre-installed on
iMac, and if I were to buy an iMac now, will I get a free upgrade ?
Cheers,
Alex
Playing DivX from a DVD, mount and permissions04 Sep 2007 18:39 GMT10
I found that on my iMac (Intel), I'm unable to play DivX movies
directly from the DVD R+ where I store them (using Linux). The various
players I've tried ( QuickTime + Perian, DivX for Mac, MPlayerOSX )
gives generic messages or fails silently.

Altering a JPEG without Recompressing04 Sep 2007 16:57 GMT16
I have some images I want to put on a Web page. Some of them require
no modification, except that they are too big (the image, not the
file). Is there a way to reduce the size without causing the quality
loss of recompressing them?
cron log04 Sep 2007 13:00 GMT5
Does anyone know where the cron log is kept on Mac OS X?
UTF-8 with Subversion04 Sep 2007 11:54 GMT21
I'm a recent convert to macs/osx (from linux), and trying to set up my
working environment. I'm well on the way, but have now encountered a
problem regarding UTF-8.

Apple hardware design rant04 Sep 2007 05:32 GMT9
Damn, had to replace a power supply on a late model G5 tonight.
Normally I'd pass this off to one of our Apple vendors but it was an
emergency since we were already down one FCP workstation due to a bad FC
adapter.
I'm lost, is this a Winders NG?04 Sep 2007 00:42 GMT82
I think this is a Winders NG, because I get a lot better answers to
Windows questions here, than I ever did from any Windows NG.
Judging by the posts relating to BootCamp, Parallels, etc. I  _think_
this is a Winders NG.
Bitwise copy of floppy disk04 Sep 2007 00:23 GMT20
I have a floppy disk with a proprietary format. I don't know exactly
what the format is. It's created on a drum machine.
I'd like to make duplicates of this floppy. Making copies with the
drum machine is extremely slow and tedious, so I want to do it with
Cross-post stats for comp.sys.mac.system03 Sep 2007 21:49 GMT6
I just did a little analysis of the xover data for articles
