New user question13 Sep 2007 01:34 GMT46
Hello, all.
A friend gave me an old Mac Powerbook, using OS 9, for a gift.  It's a
nice machine, but I'm having a problem, and I wonder if someone can help
me.
installing wireless and bluetooth in mac pro13 Sep 2007 01:19 GMT1
I have a Mac Pro (tower, not laptop) that I would like to add wireless
networking and possibly bluetooth to. I am comfortable performing the
installation myself (I understand that Apple does not consider this to
be an end-user performable action).
How to keep a mac from going to sleep?12 Sep 2007 22:48 GMT5
I bought a MacMini to do certain backup duties. The goal is to perform
backup for my websites during low activity hours (4 am - 5 am). I've
created cron jobs to perform those duties while nobody is logged into
the computer.

Error message12 Sep 2007 21:44 GMT1
A friend running a iMac PowerPC G5 says that every time he boots up, the
machine returns a report to the effect that he is not connected to the
Internet.  This despite the fact that he has a broadband connection with
a router connected and working.
Gawd! i hate computers...!!! ( re: mouse pad )12 Sep 2007 21:41 GMT3
i'm aware that there is a preference dealie that is supposed to
suppress 'stray' or 'unintentional' mousepad directions by my
thumbpads while i'm typing-- But it just doesn't work...!
Is there a way to shut the mousepad off, by some utility or secret
any python experts here?12 Sep 2007 21:09 GMT27
Someone whom I do not know sent me a python script, which I am smart
enough not to run.  But I am curious as to what it does.  So if anyone
here is able to look at the script and let me know what it actually
does, I'd appreciate it.
problem with terminal location12 Sep 2007 19:50 GMT2
[I accidentally posted this in comp.sys.mac.misc, apologies for double-
posting]
Please excuse any ambiguities or mistakes on my part, I'm not a Linux,
BASH, or Unix expert by any stretch of the imagination. I'm running
Transposed Keys12 Sep 2007 19:22 GMT2
Suddenly the "y" and "z" keys have become transposed when using Mail and
Firefox. Doesn't affect any other programs as far as I can ascertain. Word
and Textedit, for example, work normally.
Anyone throw any light on this, or suggest how to cure it. It's certainly
External Hard Drive Advice Needed12 Sep 2007 15:04 GMT16
I am considering buying a portable external hard drive with either or
both USB and Firewire interfaces. However I use Mac OS, Windoze and
Ubunutu operating systems depending upon the task at hand. When I ask if
a particular drive will work with all of the OSs, I get a lot of
Car Hookup for iPod12 Sep 2007 14:29 GMT15
Sorry if this is off topic but I recall that some of you previously
discussed the Prius here so I thought I might be able to get some
informed advice.  I just bought a new Prius to replace a 92 Camry so I
am pretty backward on recent car technology.  The sales guy said I can

Sounds
like even the Mac faithful are starting to call Steve Jobs on his

I  met Zara at his store12 Sep 2007 13:13 GMT91
I can't understand the problem you guys are having.
We were down in Palm Beach Florida Monday and went to a mall, and we saw a
Zara store next to a Apple store. So we went in and I told the girl there I
was from csma and csms and if I could get a free gift card and she said wait
