I have several hundred ripped movies on DVD-R medium. I would like to keep these for many years to show my sprogs etc I know that optical media cannot be relied upon for more than a few years.

I'm not a mac expert...but learning so bear with me. I have 2 computers which I work on. An ibook and emac. Depending on where/when I am, I'll use one or the other for my work --making files, saving them, researching and setting bookmarks, email etc.

I was looking at http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/macports/wiki/InstallingMacPorts and its instructions for installing MacPorts. It says to install Xcode Tools, Apple's XWindows and then MacPorts. Why would the author instruct me to install 2 different versions of XWindows?

I am looking at getting a new MacBook. One of the choices to make is between a 250Gb 4200rpm drive or a 160GB 7200 rpm drive. Given the overall speed of the machine, what sorts of applications would actually perform differently on the two systems?

The title says it all. I've started using firefox as my main browser because its not always clear what is going to be a pdf file when click on a link. I prefer Safari overall to Firefox, but can't use it as my default browser.

When I first installed Safari 3.x, little did I know that I couldn't go back. Then I realize that it would automatically crash when attempting to download pdf files or pen them for that matte.r
