Command line Terminal Instructions03 Aug 2007 14:16 GMT24
I downloaded a program (vcdgear-a video conversion utility eg. bin/cue
to mpeg) which I believe should run in Terminal.  It came as a zip file
which I unloaded and installed in the applications folder. When I
attempt to run the application, it results in a text window which gives ...

I've gotta start programming with Linux. Can anyone point me to info
about the best Linux distro (if there is one) for G5 Macs, as well as
how to install?

I know that optical media cannot be relied upon for more than a few
years.
.mac and best way to sync03 Aug 2007 07:47 GMT3
I'm not a mac expert...but learning so bear with me. I have 2
computers which I work on. An ibook and emac. Depending on where/when
I am, I'll use one or the other for my work --making files, saving
them, researching and setting bookmarks, email etc.
Saving to subfolders03 Aug 2007 07:20 GMT19
(Mac switcher. Still getting into the Mac way of looking at things).
When I want to save a file I can't drill down to subfolder level. The
dialog stops at the higher level folder only. There doesn't seem to be
the same folder hierarchy in Mac OS X as there is in Windows. Is this
curl syntax03 Aug 2007 06:30 GMT6
I'm trying to port something from wget to curl, but I just can't get
curl to do anything useful.
The aim is to have curl fetch a file, at a certain max speed,
automatically retrying when the connection is lost and in that case
Apple's XWindows and MacPorts03 Aug 2007 06:06 GMT1
I was looking at http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/macports/wiki/InstallingMacPorts
and its instructions for installing MacPorts.  It says to install
Xcode Tools, Apple's XWindows and then MacPorts.  Why would the author
instruct me to install 2 different versions of XWindows?

Hi, I just wanted to launch an xterm but I can't seem to find the
xterm application.
I went to apple to see if I could download it.  I did and it says that

+/- on faster vs. bigger drive in MacBook02 Aug 2007 19:00 GMT19
I am looking at getting a new MacBook.  One of the choices to make is
between a 250Gb 4200rpm drive or a 160GB 7200 rpm drive.  Given the
overall speed of the machine, what sorts of applications would
actually perform differently on the two systems?
Safari 3.0.2 crashes 100% on pdf display02 Aug 2007 15:22 GMT24

because its not always clear what is going to be a pdf file when  click
on a link. I prefer Safari overall to Firefox, but can't use it as my
default browser.

back.
Then I realize that it would automatically crash when attempting to
download pdf files or pen them for that matte.r
