I am trying to install Tiger on a Powerbook G4 that runs the latest
version of Panther at the moment (it was the last one that shipped with
Panther rather than Tiger installed).

So I see that iLife got an update today at the keynote.
My MBP (with iLife08) shipped today from Shanghai.

I was away for a week, and there's a new security update waiting for me
to install. Apple seem to have fixed a bunch of overflow conditions in

The other day I reported losing a 1TB LaCie drive.  I just tried a demo
copy of Data Rescue and it seem to be able to see all of the files.  I'd
need to purchase the product to actually recover/repair the drive (it's
a partioning error I'm told).

If I have an external hard drive, such as a 500 GB USB connect style, will
it work for both Mac and Win? Since my present external drive is formatted
NTFS, this is an important consideration. In the near future, I may need to
share data between these two computer types. For the sake ...

My G3 will not start up.
When I turn it on it strikes the chord then I just get the grey screen with
an apple on it and the pinwheel rotating. I have been able to attach my
Powerbook to it with a firewire lead and start it in target mode to back-up

When I turn the power on the computer displays the "Apple" and the
circle ticker but goes no further.  What may be wrong?

My wife's old dual-processor G4 workhorse began freezing up with the
latest upgrade to 10.4. Several times a day she gets the gray screen
and the message to restart. Her computer guy told her on the phone
that it's a bug in the newest upgrade. But he didn't offer any

I have been using tor and privoxy for anonymous surfing. Came across
JAP/JonDo today. What's the difference between these? Any advantage of
one over the other? Any reason to use both?

Is there any way to configure mount options for the auto-mounter?
