Was about to migrate to a mac, but....27 Jul 2007 07:07 GMT72
I've always used Windows machines and am growing increasingly weary of
fighting all the darned virii, worms, etc. I was hoping that the mac
mini would be upgraded with a intel core 2 duo processor, in which
case my intention was to buy one and join the "other side", i.e. the
Best camcorder for MacBook Pro user?27 Jul 2007 05:28 GMT15
The subject line says it all: I have a MacBook Pro and am shopping for
a camcorder that interfaces as nicely as possible with iMovie. I had a
Sony Handycam DCR SR40 with HDD and could not get it to connect well
at all. So I sold it and am now in the market.
How to Make C Shell Default on A Mac?27 Jul 2007 04:57 GMT4
Dear Everyone:
I recently started using a "Power Mac G5" machine.
The default shell after I login is Bash (Bourne shell) instead of the
C shell. I could use the command "tcsh" to change it to C shell.
Mac Security: Mac OS X mDNSResponder Vulnerability27 Jul 2007 04:36 GMT2
The SANS Institute has noted the discovery of a 'MODERATE'
vulnerability in Mac OS X 10.4.x. Thankfully they restrained
themselves from their usual inane editorial commentary. The
announcement was in last night's '@ RISK: The Consensus Security
IPod Batteries27 Jul 2007 01:42 GMT1
I bought my iPod battery from http://www.ipodbatterydepot.com/ and
they are great.  The price is reasonalbe, the installation is easy,
and the battery is lasting a very long time.
Dock: single vs double-click27 Jul 2007 00:52 GMT2
Is there a way to configure the Dock so that applications are launched
only with a double click instead of a single click? I am constantly
launching apps by mistake (due to the number of app icons in my Dock,
the icons are rather small and closely spaced).
POSIX error: Permission denied (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:13)26 Jul 2007 22:17 GMT14
Trying to acess a few urls or functions (very few, but crucial ones)
via any browser or even the directory via ftp (it happens to be one of
my own web spaces), I get: POSIX error: Permission
denied" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:13) . . . in Safari; other web browsers
Admin account suddenly changing to a standard one26 Jul 2007 21:55 GMT5
I am having the following problem on Panther: I was trying to change the
root password by typing su at the terminal's prompt. I then read an
article online saying that you could achieve it by opening up NetInfo
Manager, then selecting users and editing the root's user password with
Phantom Disk Usage - 20 gigs gone overnight, comes back half an hour after disconnecting from the internet...?26 Jul 2007 21:37 GMT15
I have a problem that leads me to believe that I may have been hacked;
and honestly, I'm clueless when it comes to security auditing.
The problem:
I spent the night at my girlfriend's with my Macbook Pro (running OS X
Smaller key keyboards?26 Jul 2007 19:45 GMT77
I detest modern keyboards with large keys! It seems that hot-shot designers
like to have keys fill almost all the area of a keyboard. Old-fashioned
typewriters used small keys. I do not remember any typewriter that used up
as much as half of the keyboard area.
RAID1 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 - known trouble? I certainly have ...26 Jul 2007 17:28 GMT1
My MacPro just came back from Apple's repair shop (previously kernel
panics they traced to a defective disk).
Now I did copy all my user data off the internal RAID1 (Seagate 750 GB)
to a single disk with a fresh installation of Mac OS X.
The Tyranny Of Too Much26 Jul 2007 16:55 GMT62
I've been reading complaints here that Apple doesn't give the user
enough choices. An article at <http://ce.seekingalpha.com/article/32022>
explains that that's one of the reasons that Apple is so successful:
Pundits often refer to them as "zealots" or "fanboys." The more
OSX crashes26 Jul 2007 16:42 GMT15
I've been experiencing crashes on my Mac from the time that I fisrt
installed OSX - I now have 10.4.3 installed. The freezes often occur
when I'm resizing a window but other mouse actions can also cause a
freeze. Photoshop is especially bad but Safari, formZ, and iView

256mg card into the machine, updated the drivers and then hooked up
