Does Toast 8 make .toast files?30 Jul 2007 12:26 GMT1
I read somewhere that Toast 8 now makes something called .disc images
-- are these the same as the old .toast images, or is it a new format?
If it IS a new format, is Toast able to make the old images (that will
be, importantly for me, compatible with Mac OS 9 toast)?
Epson 4800 roll paper and custom print sizes30 Jul 2007 04:35 GMT1
We are setting up a 4800 Pro and are wondering how to set up a custom
paper size for 17" roll paper. It seems that when you set up a custom
size, you can't pick "Roll Paper" from the drop down list. The manual
says to first pick a roll size from the list in Page Setup. When we do
USB serial problems30 Jul 2007 01:20 GMT2
I have a Nexxtech-branded[1] Prolific PL2303 USB to serial adaptor,
that I'm trying to use to let my GPS talk to my shiny new Macbook.
I've gotten the driver from Prolific's web site and it installs and
recognizes the adaptor with no problems, but when a program tries to open
Changing default settings for Finder "Find" (Search) command?30 Jul 2007 00:16 GMT5
The Finder's older "File >> Find" (Search) command seems a lot
friendlier than Searchlight for simple find-file-by-name searches,
except for its oddly chosen default settings,
Any way to change those?  Doesn't seem to have a prefs file of its own.
Why do I need font auto-activation?29 Jul 2007 22:52 GMT59
it seems that whenever I encounter reviews of font management utilities for
the Mac that Apple's own Font Book is dismissed as being "non-professional"
as it doesn't provide auto-activation.
As things currently stand I have 1079 font families which collectively
hex zero revisited29 Jul 2007 19:07 GMT52
Getting bored waiting for Apple to deliver my new MacBook Pro to the
Sacramento Apple store, so think I will yank the tails of the
ignoramuses in this NG who believe that hex zero and ASCII zero are the
exact same thing.
Hidden install file?29 Jul 2007 18:31 GMT4
I have a second hand mini here and found what I thought was the install
package for Keynote.
It goes through the install process until I say to install and get a message
that says "nothing to install"  The Package is more than 600MB so it has to
Systemfonts have gone weird29 Jul 2007 12:02 GMT1
After being a Windows-user for 15 years I just made the decision to
give it a try to the Mac-world. So I bought an iMac and the first I
did, was to import all my Windows-fonts to it.
Now some system fonts (like the "Arial") are looking quite weird and I
How to rename file from Finder w/o extension verification29 Jul 2007 09:04 GMT2
I don't know of any way to do this, but thought I'd ask here.  Is there
a Finder hack that will turn off the dialog that pops up when I change
or add or remove a file's extension?  Some hidden preference or
something I can twiddle via one of those extra system preferences
They Laughed When I Said I Would Make Money...29 Jul 2007 08:18 GMT1
If You Want To Make Money ..This Is What You Do.
I Spent 2 Years Trying To Make Money And Thankfully Now I Am No Longer
Trying ,I Am Actively Doing So.
This Is What It Takes..
My iMac counts sheep29 Jul 2007 00:13 GMT2
G5 iMac with 10.4.10 and 1.5 GB RAM.
Takes 33 seconds to go to sleep.  No other problems.  Anyone know why?
Would try an herbal remedy but can't find an appropriate orifice.
Toast 6 always opening at startup28 Jul 2007 22:56 GMT3
Greeting to all,
Over the past days something happened on my MacBook Pro and as a
result, every time I start my MAC, it automatically opens Toast 6
Titanium.
Partial migration28 Jul 2007 21:26 GMT3
I migrated my wife and myself from a PB to a MBP.  Now she wants her own
computer and I will need to migrate just her from the MBP.  Is there any
way to do this automatically?  If I have to do it manually, what do I
need to move and how do I make sure I get everything?
Connecting to Airport after Sleep28 Jul 2007 20:25 GMT2
On MBP the 2 GHz one, I generally manually "sleep" it when I'm away for
a bit. Recently, perhaps after the last Software update, perhaps
unrelated, it takes quite a bit of time to either find or make active my
little home LAN. I also recently put in a Password which would also ...
reinstalled 10.2.8 combo - what updates need to be reinstalled?28 Jul 2007 15:37 GMT3
After reinstalling the 10.2.8 combo updater, I'm wondering if I need to
reinstall any security updates after that (I'd guess so) and how do I
determine which ones came after 10.2.8?
If so, should I just delete the receipts for the packages and run
