I recently added an external hard drive to my iMac (OS 10.4.10, but I
suspect that's not important here) in order to do automatic backups.
But I am finding that saving or opening files can add an annoying 5-10
seconds when the external drive is spun down, even though I'm saving

We have a mac which (for reasons that are a mystery to me, but various
people who don't know much about computers have had admin access on
that machine) is missing Terminal.app.  It is running 10.3, and we
have the install disks.

I know that this is probably not a new problem.. But nothing I've read
so far seems to work for me.
I would like to share files between my Mac and my Vista PC's. (This
worked fine with XP :( )

Since installing the new version of CUPS, jobs sent to the Adobe PDF

I have just returned to a speech recording project on a G5 iMac recently
updated to 10.4.10, using a Logitech USB microphone (AK5370 still
available through Apple). I am using Audacity. In the past the voice has
been clear although there has been a certain amount of background hum.

I entered a full zip code in my wife's Safari, but most Web Masters
write code that chokes on that, so she has to edit it down to 5
digits.
How do we clear out my zip code so it auto-fills only the short one?
